Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

The Mystic Borderland

There is a mysteic borderland that lies just past the limits of our workday world
And it is peopled with the friends we met and loved
A year, a month, a week or day
And parted from with aching hearts
Yet knew that through the distance
We must lose the hold of hand with hand
And only clasp the thread of memory.

But still so close we feel this land,
So sure we are that these same hearts are tru,
That when in waking dreams there comes a call
That sets the thread of memory aglow
We know that just by stretching out the hand with written word of love
Or book or flower
The waiting hand will clasp our own once more across the distance in the same old way.

The line lengths are not correct and I've forgotten the author, but the wrods are right and fairly appropriate to the ocassion.

School! A place where all have to come, getting back to childhood I never knew where I am going. Being in reception classes it was the worst thing for me as I have to leave my home and mum for some time. Eventually time passed, and the cries of mine changed to laughter. The line, No! I’ll not go changed into ‘No! I have to go’. This school has been my second home, and it’s really hard to talk about journey of 10 years, full of memories in a short speech. It is surely the best period in the life of anyone. The golden era, and best time span where a lot of memories are built, and experiences are gained. And this golden period of my life came to its sudden end on the_______ (day), which is my last day at school. Today, when all of us are here and it is the moment when we have to say Goodbye to this school, our teachers & to each other, it finally dawns upon me what a big piece of my life I’m leaving behind. It is such a moment of happiness we will move a step ahead in our journey but the part of life which we spent here is unforgettable. Ten years are not less enough. During this tenure, we laughed, we cried. Got happy, and sad. Got great grades sometimes got failed. Attended funfairs, parties and bunked classes. My class-fellows, guys are some of the most amazing people I know and I’m going to miss you all. What we are today, all are the efforts of our worthy teachers. Always ready to help, academics or otherwise, you are an integral part of me and I thank you for being there when I needed you. The building of school means a lot to me, and I’m sure I can never forget it. It saddens me now that I realize I will never be coming back here again. Yes, this is the last good-bye of ours and we have to say as it is epic. I wish you all the very best my mates for future and of course juniors, now you are seniors, Take the charge buddies. Thank you so much for giving us such a lovely farewell which we come in front of our eyes whenever we will think about our last day. I want to say my last line which is not scripted ‘Keep in touch my dear ones

Title: Dream Big

If there were ever a time to dare,

To make a difference

To embark on something worth doing

It is now.

Not for any grand cause, necessarily –

But for something that tugs at your heart

Something that is worth your aspiration

Something that is your dream.

You owe it to yourself

To make your days count.

Have fun. Dig deep. Stretch.

Dream big.

Know, though,

That things worth doing

Seldom come easy,

There will be times when you want to

Turn around

Pack it up and call it quits

Those times tell you

That you are pushing yourself

And that you are not afraid to learn by trying.

Persist.

Because with an idea,

Determination and the right tools,

You can do great things.

Let your instincts, your intellect

And let your heart guide you.

Trust.

Believe in the incredible power

Of the human mind

Of doing something that makes a difference

Of working hard

Of laughing and hoping

Of lasting friends

Of all the things that will cross your path

Next year

The start of something new

Brings the hope of something great.

Anything is possible

There is only one you

And you will pass this way but once.

Do it right.—Author Unknown

In my opinion most of these are not very good poems. "The Road Less Taken" in particular is a very pessimistic poem when you read it more closely.

I personally read parts of Whitman's Song of Myself -- I remember 46 was one of the sections: "I know I have the best of time and space..." etc. http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/poem.html?id=174745

I'm not sure what exactly you want the poem to say. Is this just about parting? What to expect next? How to live now?

If you're more radical you might like to leave your class with this poem: http://www.yesmagazine.org/article.asp?ID=338 Some important life lessons there. You might want to give us a little more about what you want this poem to be.

The way so many on this forum responded is heart warming and the poems they suggested are extraordinary. You can recite any one of them .But Robert Browning's' woods are lovely and deep but I have to ...' so liked by Pt.Jawaharlal Nehru may be apt for you and others on the occasion. You have to leave despite your love for school and they ,you , both for the reason of marching ahead for the better and higher.

'if' by rudyard kipling an inspirational poem.
"IF"
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master,
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Memories
(I don't know who wrote this)

Store away memories of joys that you've had.
Remembering the good times, forgetting the sad.
Live life to it's fullest without a regret and each day will be
your happiest yet.

(Maybe a good one to use if you talk about events that happened during high school.)

"Humans" from the book Life Is Beautiful: La Vita E Bella by Mylia Tiye Mal Jaza is a good short one that can stand alone or be followed by another. When I follow it, I usually use "Invictus" by William Earnest Henley

Within the last day or two; someone asked about "The Road Less Traveled" / Robert Frost; an excellent; if metaphorical piece.

My suggestion and two cents.
