You might enjoy Janet Evanovich. I find her to be quite amusing. She writes a lot of chick lit. Personally - I enjoy her Stephanie Plum series, it's funny/suspensful. Begins with "One for the Money"
But if suspense isn't your thing - she writes other novels. Like "Metro Girl" and "Wife for Hire"

"He is just not that into you" is a good book really helps with the whole relationship thing. Another good one Confessions of a Shopaholic I really enjoyed and the other from that series

well this isnt quite a girly book but my favorite book is called go ask alice and its a true story its a girls diary and she became addicted to drugs and got into prostitution and such its just really interesting but not quite cheery like you want but its is an excellent book
