Two things I like about Huckabee:
1. His stance on abolishing the IRS and enacting a flat tax.
2. His honesty on this issue:
"Every time we put our credit card in the gas pump, we're paying so that the Saudis get rich — filthy, obscenely rich, and that money then ends up going to funding madrassas," schools "that train the terrorists," said Huckabee. "America has allowed itself to become enslaved to Saudi oil. It's absurd. It's embarrassing."

Why I won't vote for Huckabee:
1. His support of the Iraq War.
2. His overzealous religious nature.
3. His history suggests that he is easily bought.

Those who are socialist or socialist leaning recoil at the very idea of a flat tax or national sales tax. The reason is that socialism is about control and the power to assume all assets and distribute them as they see fit. If any proposal limits that power and instead empowers the individual they will never accept it.
Therefore, old school Liberals would be for it. New Wave Liberals produced in the more Socialist mold cannot accept it.

I think the problem here is that Huckabee is a Republican and the most liberals refuse to listen to ANYTHING from a conservative.
As a matter of fact the fair tax proposal also calls for a monthly payment to households of citizens and legal resident aliens (based on family size) as an ADVANCE REBATE of tax on purchases up to the poverty level. The sales tax rate, as defined in the legislation, is 23% of the total register price (23¢ of every $1—calculated the same way as income taxes), which is comparable to a 30% traditional sales tax (30¢ on top of every $1-when calculated like most states' sales tax). Because the U.S. tax system has a hidden effect on prices, moving to the FairTax would DECREASE production costs due to the removal of business taxes and compliance costs, which is predicted to offset a portion of the FairTax effect on prices.
With the rebate taken into consideration, the effective tax rate would be progressive on consumption and could result in a tax burden of ZERO or LESS for some taxpayers.

The problem with our current tax code is not the progressive tax rates, but the many, many exceptions, etc, that Congress has added over the years. If you think the "flat tax" will last five minutes without some Congresscritter getting their hands on it and messing it up, I have got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
As far as liberalism goes, it is predominantly a label incorrectly used by "right-wingers" to try to denigrate anybody on the "left". If you don't like it, stop using it and call them by something more correct like Democrats.

Huckabee does not favor a flat tax he supports a fair tax. A national value added tax. It is neither fair nor, flat. It would not do away with the IRS it would simply shift their duties to collecting that tax. A national sales tax would immediately add an additional 22-33% to all consumer items. It would put the burden of collecting and, reporting the tax to corporations adding additional cost to the items they sell. It could spawn a recession not seen in this country since the early 70s by supressing sales of durable products such as cars, refigerators, and televisions. As well as creating a huge black and, grey markets.

I haven't seen the liberals recoiling, in fact they want Huckabee to get the nomination because they know he is the most beatable. From what I've seen, the democrats haven't said an ill word about Huckabee as he's been gaining momentum. They want him to win.
We need a stronger republican nominee, with integrity and the ability to balance things financially, someone who the dems won't easily walk all over in the general election.
I think Mitt Romney is a far stronger candidate, which is why people are constantly trying to divert attention from the real issues and bash his religion.

They don't hate change, the liberals have embraced the Marxist principle of a redistribution of wealth through a progressive tax system in which they can tax more money from the 'lottery of life winners' and give it to the 'lottery of life losers' in the form of entitlement programs.
A consumption tax would make it much for difficult for congress to play with the numbers and sneak more taxes on us.
Also, a consumption tax would allow the population to vote with their wallet and avoid purchasing whenever they don't like what the government is doing, and this also scares a lot of people.
What Karl doesn't like, the Libs don't like.

The liberals have become socialist and they recoil because the libs in congress NEED the tax structure that is in place to reward or to punish those who help them, or go against them...I feel the IRS truly needs to be abolished and either a flat tax, or a national sales tax to take its place...

Democrats and Liberals ought to separate themselves from the Socialists. The Socialists are making you all look undesirable. with the aid of fact it could be greater handy to take administration in the event that they might get GOD out and Christians to close up. they decide to have the flexibility to do and to love doing what MAKES them satisfied. This united states of america exchange into built on faith in GOD, by way of our Founding fathers of distinctive Christian ideals, Our rules have been based on the ten Commandments.
