I guess I should have been more specific. I meant health-wise. The fact that I like to get drunk once or twice a week doesn't bother me in the least. It's fun.

To answer those who are asking what I mean by drunk... I do NOT mean blackouts or slurring or not being able to remember things or passing out or getting sick... ever. I just mean cheerful and relaxed and I'm starting to think I should have chosen my words more carefully. Sorry for the confusion.

Problems are only problems when they become problems. Trying to rationalize behavior by statistics is pointless. Some people could get hammered AT work and still be fine.

Well, not really no. But I have read articles that binge drinking, even if only on the weekends, is still not healthy. And just b/c you are not missing work or failing obligations doesn't mean anything. I have a friend who gets drunk regularly at bars, but she doesn't miss work and pays her bills, well she did until she got a DUI, but thats another part of the problem. The main problem was that she may not miss work or anything, but she doesn't better herself. She is a waitress, 23 years old and not going anywhere with her life. I mean I guess if you were succesfull and did it still wouldnt be that good. The article i read said the binge drinking was just as bad for your health even when compared to being a full flegde alcoholic. So maybe you should lay off the drink, take up a hobby.

Alcohol can be unhealthy. It's dehydrating, replaces calories that could be nutritious, it IS an addictive drug, etc... on the other hand, there are lots of cultures (e.g. in Eastern Europe) where getting drunk 1 to 3 times a week is something everyone does and it does not cause a lot of problems. It's not healthy, but it is also not terribly unhealthy. The problem is that when alcohol is a big part of your life, it's easy to slide down the slope until you're drinking every night to deal with life.

How drunk are we talking here? If you're passing out, there's a problem. But many people drink recreationally. If you feel you can get through a week w/out drinking & really be able to say no, I'd think you're okay. When you start depedning on it or can't keep obligations, etc. is when I'd worry. The definition of an addiction is when something has detrimental consequences to your life or people in your life but you continue to do it anyway. Just remember a big problem w/ addicts is that they are in denial.

If you need to ask then you already know the answer. Alcoholism is not defined by how much you drink, how often you drink or what you drink. The only people who ask if they are having a problem with their drinking are those who are having a problem with their drinking. I know....I have been in recovery for over 15 years. It would be easier to see a problem with your behavior if you were not meeting obligations or having problems that others are noticing. That will all come in time! Please look into getting some insight into what is going on in your life. A great place to find some answers is AA. I have included their link for you to use. Good luck!

That seems a bit extreme. Do you feel that you have to drink to get drunk? Do you have to drink every week? If you answered yes to both of these questions you may have a problem. Also, how do you act towards family and friends when you drink? If you feel you have a problem then maybe you should seek help. Good luck and God bless!

Yes, it could develop into a problem. It is classified as binge drinking and a "functional alcoholic." It is a form of alcoholism, only you can continue living up to your responsibilities. After a while, it will take it's toll, not only on your job and realtionships, but your health as well. Try to curtail it now, while you still can.

Good luck.

Getting drunk that often could train your body to need alcohol.

A person with no problems with alcohol can stop drinking before he or she is intoxicated. Can you do that? I'd encourage you to consult a doctor and/or a counselor, and get this under control before it starts causing you a lot of trouble.

If you need an incentive to cut back on your drinking, consider how many calories you're imbibing.

"Excessive drinking, including binge and heavy drinking, has numerous chronic (long-term) and acute (short-term) health effects. Chronic health consequences of excessive drinking can include liver cirrhosis (damage to liver cells); pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas); various cancers, including cancer of the liver, mouth, throat, larynx (the voice box), and esophagus; high blood pressure; and psychological disorders." --http://www.hopenetworks.org/addiction/alcohol/Alcohol_Questions_Answers.htm

To me it sounds like you have a problem but won't admit it. If you are drinking that much, yes, you have a problem. Whether you like it or not, this makes you an alcoholic. This is why I stay away from the stuff.
