You can't claim an unborn child on your taxes. Remember that you are paying taxes on the previous year's income, not the current one. Once your baby is born, you can get it a social security number and then you will be able to claim it on your 2008 return that you file in 2009.

A child must be born by 12/31/2007 to be claimed on a 2007 return.

no you cannot claim the baby at all till after it is born and has a SS# registered to it. Even if the child happens to be born before you file, you need a SS# before you can claim it. The card itself will take 6-8 weeks after the baby's birth to be issued and delivered by mail to your home.

I was 6 months pregnant last year when i filed and they would not let me claim the baby.

You are carrying your child now without a social security number!

The child's social security number must be included on your tax return to claim it as an exemption unless the child was born during the tax year and died or hasn't been issued a Social Security number yet. If that is the case, you can attach a copy of the birth certificate.

You have to wait for your child to be born before you can claim him/her. You are not allowed to claim your unborn baby. If you child will be born after the new year, you will have to wait until 2009 to claim him/her.

And to answer your mail question, you must provide a social security number to claim a child unless the child dies before one can be issued.

If your baby doesn't arrive until 2008, you can't claim him or her for 2007 in any case. And by the end of 2008, you'll have the ss number - you'll apply for that in the hospital.

You will have time to obtain the SSN after the child is born. You can't claim any credit on your 2007 return anyway if the child isn't born this year.

This guy thinks he's doing you a "favor" by paying $400/month for 2 kids?! no way.. have the state enforce child support. This is fair for all parties.

You can;t claim the baby until next year. It only takes 6 weeks or so after birth to receive their card. You can;t apply for one until s/he arrives.
