X replaces "Christ" in Christmas so people don't offend other people. I don't know how they came up with an X rather than Z or G... "Merry Z-mas!" ...Hmm... X sounds more reasonable than Z... But I still say Christmas. ^^

We say X-Mas because it shortened. I don't like X mas cause it surely takes the Christ out of Christmas. I really have no idea where the X came from, the first thought that somes to mind is the people who don't believe in Jesus and still wanted to use the term? My idea makes sense lol.

I never SAY x-mas.. but I write it..
don;t know why it started or when, but for me it;s just me being too lazy to repeatedly write the WHOLE thing out..
when ur sending out xmas cards in mass quantity.. writing MERRY CHRISTMAS isn't as appealing as cutting it down to MERRY XMAS!

i think of that it would be c-mas if it is going to be abbreviated. CHRIST mas became named after Jesus Christ. no remember if that's abbreviated, then that could come to the tip that his call is Jesus X, and that's not his call. i won't be able to purchase, provide, or get carry of something that has x-mas on it. i wish u have a merry CHRISTmas, and a chuffed new three hundred and sixty 5 days. ?/Cati

Some companies and individuals will say it because they think it is less offensive than Christmas- they are essentially taking "Christ" out of "Christmas".

i believe it is just a shorter version, but i have heard that is for people who celebrate Christmas even thought they do not believe in Christ, that is why they take him out of the saying
