I know what a Bloater is, and can honestly say that I've never taken a stroll down the High Street to get one. Now if it had been Rock Salmon maybe.

We don't actually have a High Street, we have a Market Square. I used to live in Guildford and that has a beautiful High Street but I was never able to buy a Bloater because there were no Fish Mongers. It was all M & S Boots WH Smith and Boutiques!

We have a High Street here and the High Street Cafe serves a 1 pound burger with the best fries on earth. Add a dark, rich microbrew and its a real bloater! btw ... the "High" street sign is the most stolen sign in the city! Gotta love this town!

Well that is all new jargon for my ears LOL. I assumed you
meant taking a walk to the neighborhood pub for a pint of
brew. A friend of mine, goes once a week with his wife for
that, to the Daiseyfield. Now what kind of a name is that for
a tavern/pub? I've heard some other silly ones too. And sure
do wonder how they chose the names for places which used
to be strictly for the male population at one time. Now entire
families spend time inside them. Even going for Halloween
treats with the kiddies.
Sorry about the brine soaked whatever, I'll have to pass LOL, it doesn't give me incentive to even leave the house :)

"bloater" does not compute -- sounds like a real gas, and I wouldn't intentionally walk anywhere to get gassed.
