you can't force humor. write about something that you are truly interested in, and if it ends up being funny, so be it. good luck!

Did the teacher give you any specifics to go on, or are you just supposed to choose a topic? You have to think about how you want the speech to turn out- for example:
1. Informative or persuasive?
2. Serious or light?
3. Topic
4. Points
5. Intro & Conclusion

Just get the speech out in a rough draft, and when you go back through it to edit, you can put in "funny" things.

Some ideas-
Memories (tell about an interesting or life-changing moment, but remember those types of speeches generally have a moral.)
New Ideas (give your perspective on a new invention, law, or idea in America- it can be really funny!)
Perspective (if your speech is supposed to be serious, pick a hot topic in America and give your point of view, i.e. abortion, war, etc.)

Good luck!

I have to think that your teacher gave you some guide lines as to the purpose of your speech. Are you to demonstrate something, convince your audience of some opinion of yours or sell something or move your audience to do something. Once you figure that out, it get easier.

The speech to demonstrate is the easiest simply because it's already organized. You start at the beginning of the process and work through to the end. You could demonstrate how to make the absolutely perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Bring in a box or basket of sandwiches you made at home, and at the end of your speech hand them out. Before class begins though, ask your teacher to go at the end of the period because the other students' eating would disturb any other speakers.

The others are right. Don't force humor. It doesn't work very well. Good luck.

I agree with this person above me. It probably isn't a good idea to try to find something funny on purpose. You need to find something that you know a lot about or are intersted in learning about because you will be able to give more information and have a more thorough speech. If you try to be funny, most likely it won't be.
