I think it's very likely that Harper Lee is, in fact, the author of the book. Many of the incidents described in the book have biographical origins from her own childhood.

While she hasn't written any other novels, she is the author of short stories and essays about the town of Monroeville (I'm not sure if any of these were published), the town where TKAM is set (and where she grew up) and also wrote several pieces for publications at Huntington College and University of Alabama on the subject of racism. TKAM didn't fall out of the sky - the precedent for theme and setting was established in her writing a long time ago.

Conspiracy theories are fun, but in this case yours doesn't carry much weight.

Hey, J
Why do you think she didn't write the book? That's quite a statement to pull out of a hat.

Maybe you think she didn't because you saw a movie or read an article about how much she helped Truman Capote gather material for "In Cold Blood."

But if you think Truman Capote (or anyone else) wrote "To Kill a Mockingbird," sorry, you are sadly mistaken.
Lee was recently honored yet again for that book, didn't you see that?

She wrote it, and you'll probably be told so a zillion times here. Well, you made the statement, so here are your answers.

Sorry 'bout that misjudgment, or the wrong information you got. Just let it go on by, and realize Lee wrote "Mockingbird."

Truman Capote and Harper Lee were childhood friends. The character Dicky is based on him, which makes sense of you read The Chirstmas Memory by Capote. Lee did help Capote with his information gathering for In Cold Blood. He did not want to interupt the flow of conversation with taking notes, so he had Harper Lee come along and take notes.

Nelle Harper Lee wrote "To Kill a Mocking Bird", but who wrote all of Wm Shakespeare's plays?

If someone other than Harper Lee wrote it, the most likely candidate would be Truman Capote, but it would be easy enough to compare the style and tone of To Kill A Mockingbird with that of any of his works to determine the likelihood. In any case, many authors published only one novel each (e. g. Emily Bronte), and many outstanding thinkers and artists did poorly in their fields in school.

A lot of authors only wrote one book.
Where is your evidence coming from? I suggest you check your sources before you believe them.
