For the past ten years I have used Twister Trojan Antivirus, also used by the Govt. Of China. You only pay a one time fee for life of $29.99 and you will get daily auto updates, and all new versions for life. This software is light years ahead of any other known antivirus program. I have never had one virus as the background scanner, kills trojans, spyware, embedded in any webpage you open they in seconds, and will do the same for any file you download, compressed of all types including music.

I downloaded a free version of Norton last year and you are right, it slowed down my speed a lot.
So I went out and purchased the new 2007 ($50.00) and it has worked properly without any slow downs or hitches.

I use to have Norton and had nothing but trouble with it. I now use Windows live one care, it was recommended to me from the place where I got my pc repaired. You can download a free trail from the windows download center. It is also cheaper than Norton. Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

I assume you have Norton's 2007...that one bogs down your resources. But hear the 2008 is greatly improved...I would of got the latter but I bought AVG instead.I know there will be some self righteous goons out there who hate AVG,but I am satisfied totally.AVG is awesome,.....uses very little resources for fast operation.

Excellent alternatives to Norton are NOD32 or Kaspersky.

NOD32: http://www.eset.com/
Kaspersky: http://www.kaspersky.com/

If you don't want to pay, then go for Avira AntiVir PE Classic. It is VERY good.
