I'm 9wks and 3 days. I'm late to work at least 2-3 a week for the past 3 weeks now because of morning sickness and sometimes I leave early cause I'm tired or sick. I've called in at least 4-5 times also. Am I being a whimp? I'm tired, weak feeling, and naucious and thinking about going home again but I don't know if they completely understand or if they think I'm just sponging my pregnancy for days off. How much time did you take off if you had morning sickness?

Nah your not being a whimp, I think EVERYONE pregnant woman early in their pregnancy feels excatly the same, pregnancy isn't all its talk up to be, the first 12-13 weeks you eat heaps your tired all the time peeing constantly get tummy cramps and feel like your gunna chuck yah guts up then for a few weeks you feel ok then around 15-20 onwards you start to feel fat your back hurts you can't sleep properly coz you can't get comfy or again your back hurts or the baby enjoys playing with every organ you have inside of you. Then just before your due everything mentioned above is worse times 100 plus u can bearly wipe yourself you feel like a gorilla coz u can't reach your legs to shave them, ur feet are looking like balloons and everytime u stand up and walk around your groin and pelvis hurts so much you want to rip it out. So pretty much no your not being a whimp and it won't get better, your boss has to deal with it if they value you which i hope they do!!

I didnt take any days off. I think I came into work late by an hour, twice but that was it. I ate saltine crackers for the nausea and yogurt for the hearburn and at my job we are allowed an hour break for lunch of which i would spend ten minutes eating and 50 minutes sleeping. We also get two fifteen minute breaks away from our desk and i would just go into the bathroom stall (disgusting I know) and take a nap in there for fifteen minutes when I was tired. I slept on the way home too because i took the train.

It's hard to do because you are just soooooooo tired and so sick that you dont even feel like being bothered with combing your own hair but you have to suck it up because life goes on and most people have no sympathy for your condition. It's really messed up but thats what i found to be true. No one at my job cared that I was struggling to hold it together, they still wanted their project by the afternoon.

Im sorry you feel so bad but it will get better. Give it another four or so weeks and it will get better.

First Trimesters are so different for every woman, it's hard to say. I can tell you this, though. When I was pregnant with my first I worked as a baker every morning from 5am-2pm and I went home early MANY times. I was SICK, sick, sick with my son. I threw up a few times a day and was sooo exhausted. I remember calling in sick at least twice, but went home early a lot more often.

With this current pregnancy, I have been a little sick to my stomach but nothing like I was with my first - I would probably not have to call in sick if I was still working outside the home.

My point is, it varies so much you really just have to go with what you are feeling. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it either way - after all, it's only a short period of your life!

Hope you feel better soon.

there no i do not think you are being a whimp,i did not have morning sickness but i was really tire i fell asleep on the drive through window lol!!! and a customer woke me up!! wantin his breakfast!!! i understand how you feel i ended up leaving my work at mac donalds and getting a job that suited my condition where i could get up that little bit later, so i ha time to get ready and get there in good time. Could you not change your shifts or ask to be in at lunchtI'me instead im sure they would understand if you explained to them that a morning start while you have morning sickness is not helping or there is the possibility of finding yourself another job like i did, i know it is hard but its even harder doing something you are struggling with while you are expecting.
good luck xxx

I didn't take any time off.

That's not me calling you a wimp... I just couldn't really take time off and mine only lasted about 3 weeks. I also don't go into work until 2:30 in the afternoon. Besides I'm one of the those people who would go crazy if I had to stay home all day and I know that I'm going to be out for awhile at the end of my pregnancy.

Try smelling or nibbling lemon when you feel really nauseous. It helped me soooo much!

You're not being a wimp because early pregnancy is hard for some women with m/s and fatigue, but you do need to realize that you can't just leave early all the time or take off or come in late so often just because of it. Ask your doctor for something to soothe m/s and I've always had gum at my desk, it helps. It will pass, hopefully, and in late pregnancy you will get tired yet again because of the extra weight plus your feet and ankles might get swollen and making it harder to stand on your feet. Keep in mind, employers can't fire you for being pregnant, but they CAN and WILL fire you for not meeting their expectations. Good luck :)

Your not being a whimp. I stayed at home for a week and a half once. I had a terrible fever. My dad a doctor says that if you feel sick you should drink Gatorade. It worked for me. My mom got a pack and we drank and felt better each day. Now whenever I feel bad I just go to the fridge and drink. Hope you feel better!

P.S. Don't drink to much Gatorade. And congrats!

Um depending on your job, if you work with food I can see why, but otherwise (office job) you need to suck it up! Make sure you eat something when you wake up so it calms your stomach acid! Even if you will throw it up later it will help! Suck on peppermints and ice cubes through the day that helped me get through work. I mean ya they know you are having morning sickness but they may think your milking it for all it's worth! If they see you are really sick they will send you home. Otherwise I wouldn't take anymore days off! You don't want to lose your job when you have tons of baby stuff to buy in the near future! Good luck and like I said eat something in th am, cherrios or somethin! And for the sleepiness, go to bed earlier and take a nap when you get home from work!

I never took off. I had morning sickness for 3 months. I just wanted to show my manager that I was still dedicated to my job and if I felt sick then I'd just go to the bathroom at work. There's also a rest/break room where I could lay down and rest for 15-20 minutes if I needed to. It wasn't like I was sick with a bug, just pregnant.
