I've had enough of people calling on my mobile number, verifying who I am by asking "Can I speak to Mr xyz", then hanging up! I'm sure this is marketing and probably of questionable legality (Or at least morality). I've more or less stopped using my land line because of marketing calls, I don't want it to start on my mobile too.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Anywho looks like a non UK service - I'm looking further into it but it want a 10 digit number, the one I'm looking for is 11 digits...

Hmmm... I'll try dropping the first zero

Hi all, thanks for answer so far...

To clarify - Am looking for a UK service to fulfill what I now call "reverse phonebook" requests.

That's a UK SERVICE - If you are in US/ColdPlace, please don't tell me about the one that works for you I've tried it, doesn't work for me!

GG to Otter - best advice so far - I know it's out there - if I knew where, I'd compile it with pure hard work then get some Wiz to PHP it for me and make some cache :)

If you are Mt Xyz, and it happens often register the number for that and th landline with the Telephone preference service. (Given your ID I assume you are UK based)
Then if it continues, you can try to note the No that calls and try to get Co names and report them for breaches of the acts.

Google Telephone Preference Service to find their website to register

I nosed around the BT site (thephonebook.bt) and couldn't find a number lookup. But the Help section explains why one can't look up a number for Eire (independent phone co.) so I suspect there MUST be a general phone number lookup on the site somewhere...

Happy hunting.

www.anywho.com and click on reverse phonebook. if the number is listed it will give you who it is registered to. Cell/mobile phone numbers will not work.

The reverse directory at www.dexonline.com works this way, though if they called from a cell phone it won't work
