Point well taken, although I see other reasons for the LOL besides lying to the world that you're cackling like a witch in real time. Sometimes words and thoughts lose meaning on here. Things get lost in translation. I often employ the LOL to show that my rhetoric isn't too serious or hostile. Also, I try to use it only when something is legitimately funny.
