i know the procedure on how to do it. i'm just confused because the rule we were given says that i should find the factors of the last term and then use the FOIL method...but the answer i keep on getting is 2x^2 - 5x + 3....

also, this is not a homework...this is my own personal exercise...

and i dont want the great court answering this!!! i'm new here, btw!!!! it's not my fault i didnt know how to express a square with ^2!!!!

(2x--------) (x-------)
Factors for 3 are 3 and 1 or 1 and 3
Try 1 and 3:-
(2x-------1)(x-------3)
Could obtain -7x from this by affixing appropriate signs:-
(2x - 1)(x - 3) is required answer.

Check
2x² - 6x - x + 3
2x² - 7x + 3 (as required)

you have the numbers switched, you had (2x-3)(x-1) but the correct answer is:

(x -3)(2x-1)

2x^2 - 7x + 3

Factor them

( 2x - 1) ( x - 3)

(2x - 1) (1x -3)

Checking the work gives you 2x * 1x = x^2
2x*-3 + 1x*-1 gives you -6x + -x or -7x
finally -1 * -3 gives you 3
