Some of you out here may be a bit young and not knowledgable of the two movies that most critics rank as the best car chase scenes (which I also agree with). Here they are:
Bullit - 1969 (before my time, but MAN is it mind boggling!) most incredible car chase scene through San Francisco and South San Francisco. Just incredible. It could never be done today.
To Live and Die in L.A. - (1980's film that is overall very cool with William Peterson of CSI fame and Willem Dafoe) Here it's the wrong way down the 405 during rush hour chase scene. It is edge of your seat stuff. You've got to see this to believe it!

Deathproof. Usually when I watch a movie with a car chase I'm excited, but this movie was the first time that I was actually on the edge of my seat when Zoe was on the hood of the car.
2nd place would be the original Gone In 60 Seconds. Just because I couldn't stop laughing when the police made their arrest at the end of the movie.

The chase in Bullitt is amazing.
The chase in the Blues Brothers is pretty entertaining though.

I Love Whats up Doc,,,,,,,,,,, all the cars chasing Ryan O Neil and Barbra Streisand on an ice cream bicycle!!! They all end up in San Francisco Harbour!!
