no 7 yr old will understand the religious connotations the ADULTS keep bickering about. Kids will think its cool when the bears fight.
that being said, The author of golden compass said this:
"I'm trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief," said Pullman in an article by The Washington Post, adding that C.S. Lewis, the Christian author of Chronicles of Narnia, would describe his books as the “Devil's work."

No volume of boycotting on everybody's area is going to offer up the action picture from being shown or people going to make certain it. They do have unfastened will considering the fact that it incredibly is a unfastened united states of america in spite of everything and not everybody shares the comparable religious ideals. For the checklist, i've got faith in God (as a pagan, not the Christian God) yet never in besides do I help your tirade. in certainty, i comprehend many Christians who have not have been given any concern in besides with the books and that they intend to take their families to make certain it while it comes out. greater skill to them. I even intend to make certain the action picture myself considering the fact that I enjoyed the previews (have not examine the e book yet). that is not suitable what the e book or action picture is, there'll constantly be people such as you making a brilliant fuss out of a few thing that has no bearing in any respect. it incredibly is fiction, people. Even the Narnia sequence exchange into written by way of an atheist and Christians all over the realm embody the story as their own. Why do you care what different individuals do on their own time? Are you that bored along with your own existence which you ought to rigidity approximately everybody else? so some distance as 'killing God", the Jews did that already 2 millenia in the past so your argument is moot throughout returned. nevertheless, i could be very stunned if it is definitely interior the e book interior the context you're suggesting. who's to assert that interior the aforementioned interview, he wasn't being sarcastic or joking? people do this each and every physique the time in interviews. The written word is amazingly complicated to make certain in that experience. Or he maybe has a distinctive definition of God that he used extremely than what Christians are acquainted with. additionally, if your ideals are dependant on what Hollywood does, then your ideals are not very solid first of all. For what that is nicely worth, my very strict Christian grandmother exchange into anti-witchcraft and she or he enjoyed the Harry Potter books and action pictures, and those have been very non-Christian. recover from your self and locate yet another pastime that doesn't contain dictating what different individuals do or do not do.

They are not trying to kill God they are trying to split the children and their "souls" (which is portrayed as animals) up so they can grow up faster because I guess their souls are attracting a particle that their equivalence of a church (forgot what its called) is trying to say it doesn't exist so they don't lose control...it is not a God hating movie, it was just written by an atheist author (apparently) AND! I really suggest not to let the little ones go see it, here the theatres said it is "Not Recommended For Young Children" =)

the movie has not religious undertones...any undertones that the books had was taken out. and yes it is appropriate, just one part is a little edge and that is where the polar bears fight.
the people that are boy coting the movie didnt bother to watch the movie or read the books, and are just doing it for attention, so do not worry about it
plus it is a personal decision on if you see the movie or not. but when i saw it a lot of kids was in the audience and they seems to enjoy it very much
good luck with your decision
____________
note: Elissa ^-^ ,there are a lot of movies where witches are good guys...and the demons are not typcial deamons....wonders if you even bothered to watch the movie or read the book

It amazes me at Hollywood never passes up a chance to take a sidelong crack at Christianity and particularly Catholicism. (I'm not catholic) This is just yet another case of that, nothing direct, just yet another in a constant tactic to in a million little ways create a negative attitude toward the christian religion.
All of this went way beyond the book, fans of the book will be surprised at how much of the story was changed.

there are religious things mentioned, but not directly called.
like one character says "our ancestors defied the authority," which hints to adam and eve
the movie is worth seeing despite all of this
and it is probably not right for kids that young, because i had to explain it to my 14 year old cousin
though they may just see it as a movie with shape shifting animals, giant bears, and cool witches

I saw it,and liked it.It does have Religious undertones. The villains resemble priests their organization is church like.I don't recall any God references. It's a stretch calling it anti-religion.It's inappropriate for anyone under 10 in my opinion. For violence and frightening scenes.Kids will only see it as anti God if silly adults convince them it is.

all children should see this movie. It teaches children to think for themselves, to trust their intuition and not be manipulated by religious organizations that want to manipulate and control entire populations. If you want your child to grow up autonomous, intelligent and to have the ability to think for themselves then you owe it to them to let them see this movie. Be careful of institutions with too much control and power it's very scary.

Oh, please... it's just more silly nonsense that silly people continue to regurgitate.
It's a work of fiction. Plain and simple.
If religious people are going to be SO upset about a work of fiction that should clue you in about how "strong" their faith really is.
