A short sharp shock should be delivered to discourage them, not a soft option to ease them into crime.
This government is failing the people on issues of crime.
Trying to keep empty places in prison is not a valid reason for a teenage thug to go happy slapping and get off by writing a letter to the victim.
Only for a first offence??? How many times have we seen thugs being given yet another last chance? It's a joke.
I firmly believe that this government is a waste of our money.

If some chav happy slapped me, they'd be dealt with by me ramming my fist into their spotty little face. :-) F**k the letter of apology. That's probably why they've never bothered with me they always go for people they know won't hurt them back. For this, they should just be taken down the police station and given a good kicking just like in the old days. Police these days are scared of them. Bring back the times when coppers had proper authority and could grab the little twats by the neck, take them down the station, give them a pasting to teach them a lesson then let them go.

They should be locked up for at least 3 months on the first crime - has to be more effective than apologising.
Or go back to the good old days when policeman would give the kids a firm 'clip round the ear' when they got caught doing something they shouldn't.

it's madness that people think it's that easy. the world isn't perfect or never will be. there would have to be a prison at the end of every single street for that. fighting etc is part of society - a negative part of society. it is still part of society.
it will never change. am not agreeing with violence just the way it is..

The "War Against Non-Violent Drug Offenders" is a perfect example of the Government...
"Failing the people on issues of crime..."
AND a perfect example of "enforcement madness..."

i agree. until we start truly punishing people for their crimes, they will not stop. i think that if a man rapes a girl, for instance, and has his jimmy cut off, there will be FAR less individuals who consider rape if they know that this is a consequence.
