you'll need the social security numbers for anyone that you are claiming. If you don't have one for your baby, that's probably OK. Other than that. all of your tax statements. Your company will send you year end forms with all the information about salary, taxes paid, etc. Any bank statements and brokerage account statements and mortgage statements. You'll begin recieving all of the statements in the mail beginning in late January. Also if you have medical/education or other deductions you are claiming, then you should bring those reciepts with you also.

A copy of last year's return if you filed one.

Anything you get in the mail over the next few months that says "tax information" on the envelope.

Social security cards for yourself and your dependents, or a copy of them - not just the number written down.

If the sister is YOUR sister, be sure that you can claim her.

Unless the baby DIED, the IRS requires social security numbers to claim a baby.

The last time an exception was made was for babies born in Louisiana around the time of Hurrican Katrina.

If your baby has not been issued a Social Security number yet, bring a copy of its birth certificate.

do not go to a big company like h&r block or jackson hewitt, they only rip people off! go to a smaller company or do it yourself online.

You'll need full names, dates of birth and SSNs for anyone that you are "claiming." you'll need all W-2s or 1099s at a minimum.
