Like everything else in life, it is wrong to categorize. It's not fair to say that all thin persons are to blame because they must have anorexia or bulemia. It's not fair to say a diabetic wishes to have diabetes. The persons with illnesses such as thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, adrenal disease, pituitary disease may have either extreme weight gain or loss. It can go either way. So, while I agree there are fat slobs who think there is nothing important in life other than feeding their face, it is wrong to make such broad (no pun intended) assumptions.
Interesting.... I just answered another question on Yahoo about does what goes around come around. I would have to say that I've seen many persons laugh or scorn overweight and then have to eat (no pun intended) their own words when they find themselves overweight someday.

For some people, it's quite right to say it's an illness. I used to work in an office with a woman who a real problem with the way her body managed fat. Seeing her sitting at her desk, you would never guess she had any issues with fat, at all. From the waist up, she looked completely normal. From the waist down, however, she was quite incredibly fat. It made no sense to me that the top and bottom parts of someone's body could be so completely different. Obviously, for her, there was a very real medical condition at work MAKING her fat from the waist down, only. It baffles me.
There's also a huge amount of misinformation about what makes people fat which is, probably, what causes many people to struggle keeping their weight under control. The fashions for "Low Fat Foods" and "High Fibre Diets" are an absolute con. Eating fat does not cause anyone to put on weight. Fat IS food. It's good food. Like it or not, people are carnivores, by nature. The fat, along with the meat, is something we should all eat plenty of. It's good for you, because you are human and that is what human biology has evolved to cope with eating most of: MEAT.
The truth is, a "High Fibre, Low Fat Diet" is a recipe for obesity. It's completely unnatural and human biology is not designed to cope with it. The mass-produced, starch and stodge-rich foods made from industrial scale cereal and potato farm output are often touted as healthy food and it, simply, is not very good, at all. We've all been lied to about that. We all know cake is fattening. Well, that stuff is the same stuff as cake but not so sweet. Rice, pasta, bread, pizza base, burger buns, chips or fries, all that stuff serves the purpose of cheaply bulking up meals at the expense of meat and more nutritious vegetables. They do more than bulk up meals. They bulk up people, too.
If a fat person replaces these useless 'foods' with meat and greens, they'll lose weight, without having to eat less, simply because human biology can cope with these things efficiently. It can't cope with stodge very well.

I disagree with that. All fat people aren't fat because they eat, however most fat people that are shown on TV are overweight due to their eating habits. I know some fat people who eat the same amount of food I eat, infact probabaly less, but I'm a size ten. Ever since these people were kids they've been chubby, they never overeat and they eat healthy food (salads, vegetables, proper meals). They hardly ever eat chocolate, crisps or other fast foods. They don't drink alchohol or smoke. So you're wrong. They're trying to lose the weight, some have a treadmill at home, but it's hard when you have a busy life. I don't think you should steriotypically judge these people. People are fat for different for a variety of reasons and I agree that overeating and a poor lifestyle is one of the main causes but in other cases it's down to illnesses or generally just the way they are.

I think it's true that you can be genetically disposed to being fat. It does run in families, and even identical twins who have been separated at birth tend to develop the same weight (whether fat or thin). My fiance eats huge meals, late at night. He drinks beer, eats all the wrong things, and eats a lot of chocolate, but never puts on an ounce, and is very slim. He says it runs in his family. They are all the same. Some fat people do have a genuine medical problem e.g. under active thyroid, and it isn't their fault that they are fat.
Saying that, It is definitely possible for anyone to lose weight, and follow a healthy diet. I put on weight very easily, and I have to be very careful with my diet. If I eat what I want for a couple of months I can easily put on half a stone. At that point I usually start eating healthily and avoid most carbohydrates and sugars until I get back to my normal weight. If I didn't I would probably be huge by now. I wish I was like my fiance, but I'm not, so I will always have turn a blind eye when he eats a bar of chocolate!!!

I would expect that anyone on here making comments about fat people take absolutely no health risks, have no unhealthy vices, and keep a steady diet with good organic food and excercise. Otherwise shut your face until it happens to you. I let myself get very overwieght (315lbs. at 5'11") and have been working ever since to get it off. I was going through some very difficult times and I have to say that the way people look at you and constantly judge you and talk about you in no way helps in hard times. (Disgustingly enough it seems to be socially accepted to talk about fat people in ear shot in sometimes right in front of them.) There are constant diet suggestions. Guess what guys and gals if your are an emotinal eater and you spend all day being talked about and berated YOU GO HOME AND EAT. If you saw me on the street you would see a fat (225lbs.) woman. Not the beautiful woman that I am. You would not know or take into consideration that I eat healthy and work out 3 nights a week (at the very least an hour a night). I hope all you judgemental people are thinking about everyone you have insulted that is overwieght and then remember when you were reminded EVERYDAY how much you suck. You all need to stop behaving like children and concern your self with your own life! We don't need you judging us we do it everyday. I am a big beautiful women with curves! Appreciate it b*****s!

Seems to me that you have no idea what you are talking about. Genetics has everything to do with dietary requirements and metabolism. As for "blame" you seem to want to condemn people who are fat rather than to understand how a change in the food supply can affect a persons health and well being. Such things to consider are food allergies (milk, wheat, nuts, etc.) and nutrient content which affect certain races of people significantly because of ancestrally established patterns of dietary assimilation. If for example, your family came to America from a very poor country with a scare food supply and you begin to eat every day (instead of every other day or every week) then you would most likely gain weight. You might even become "FAT" and become subject to ridicule from ignorant people like yourself. If it were as simple as you say, "If you exercised and stop eating, we would be able to feed all of the world's hungry with the excess food!!!!!!!", well then perhaps you have the answer to world hunger. How about you visit Ethiopia for a month then come back here and ask another question.

Part of weight gain is hereditary. I said "part of it". So you're both wrong and right, if that means anything. People gain weight for different reasons. In a lot of cases, heaviness is a result of a medical condition, I.e. thyroid or diabetes, which are autoimmune disorders and not exactly the fault of the person. So making sweeping statements as you just did are not entirely justified.
Yes people do make excuses, and some people have a harder time losing weight or maintaining it because their metabolism is slower. Skinny, or rather, thin people normally have faster metabolisms. Though in my opinion, if they are stuffing their face with junk all the time, skinny, fat, or otherwise, they are just as much of a pig.

Its just as much of an illness as alcoholism or drug addiction-so not at all.
Its a simple matter of free choice. Yes, its more difficult for some people, but its not impossible.
If you need help feel free to get it, but blaming your own problems on everyone else is ridiculous and counter productive. Its much better to admit youve made some mistakes, then grow and learn from them.
Part of the issue is the push for skinny people though. Its more important to be healthy, and some people are healthier at larger sizes than others. BMI (height to weight index) is very inaccurate. Cookie cutter health ideas never work.
Health issues are totally different. But most can be controlled if youre willing to take your meds and do as your told. Lazy/apathetic people with thryoid problems or diabetes are the ones you notice, but many blend in because they take care of themselves within their limitations.

Assuming that there is not a medical reason for being fat or obese, I agree that those of us who are this size have made that choice. That does not mean we overeat junk food. In my case, I overate and overeat good healthy food because I love being obese and love to eat. I know what I would need to do if I wanted to lose weight. I choose not to do so.

Mr. Controversy,
You joined yesterday and that's the best question you could come up with?
I suppose I could explain to you that my sibling had the most horrible diet ever, never moved her a-ss and never gained an ounce, whereas just watching her eat turned my stomach and I'm the one who got fat on good meals and sports.
I suppose I could explain that the docs have yet to find what the problem is with my blood system and the best they can come up with is to tell me to lose weight.
I suppose I could explain to you that after two serious car accidents (neither of which my fault) I can't just do the things I'd like to do anymore.
But why would I want to explain all this to you. Your mind is already filled to the rim with prejudice about something you know nothing about. If you can find one exception, don't blame the entire group. Otherwise I can turn it around and say that all thin people are stupid like you, and that wouldn't be fair at all, would it?
