Life is what you make of it. If you want a simple life, go for it. Its only our fears (and a little pollution) that hold us back.
Fear of poverty is a major and unecessary source of stress. We humans are already very rich but we continually beat ourselves up trying to be just a little more richer than the next guy.
This misguided sense of competition is not only destroying people's self-esteem but creating a lot of pollution which is destroying people's physical health at the same time.

thats a very interesting question. Probably someone back in the old days asked, "why do i have to be a shoemaker?"
we're lucky we have so much freedom and liberty, and it may seem better to have everything determined for us, but isn't. Thinking that if we had a simpler life, will not make life easier; we will still have problems in some other form. If not a car breakdown, it would be a sick horse. What difference does it make?
life is all about trusting your feelings, taking chances loosing, finding yourself, remembering the past, and learning from the past, and realising that things will always change. Because, change is the only thing that is constant.
So even if we could turn the wheel of time, we still would have a "life"...and we would have to learn to love it eventually. If life was easy, well...it just wouldn't be a life now would it?

Yes, I often wish life was easier, then I wonder...but if it was, would I appreciate it as much? You value things (Not monetary mind you) more that you have worked harder to achieve.
Yes, life was easier for the shoemaker. All he had was his craft. BUT, he also never went anywhere, usually did not know how to read, and lived a very simple existence. Maybe all he learned was shoes, but at night he dreamed of being a blacksmith or a knight.
The more we learn, the more we open ourselves up to what this great big world has to offer. Don't let yourself get burnt-out. Just change the way you look at this time in your life. I don't know about your financial status (grants etc) but maybe you need to take a small break from school and then resume your learning.
Good luck

Trust me, the college years ARE the good years.
Maybe there's some underlying issue you need to work on, but things don't get easier from here, they get tougher. College was one of the last time in my life I got to focus on things that made sense to me. After that, working is all about paying bills and putting food on the table. Like the vast majority of people, I don't like my job; I find it a meaningless drudge and a drain on my energy for things that really do interest me. But like most people, I like to eat, so I keep on working. I'm still looking for that job that will give me that sense of achievement, but so far, that hasn't happened.
The way you're wording it, you seem to be facing some insecurities. It's like it would be easier on you if someone could just tell you what you have to do and you just do it. Maybe it would take a load of worries off you, but it would also take away your freedom and possibilities. My advice to you is don't take things so seriously; you'll have plenty of time to face drudgery and not have to question where you're going tomorrow morning, but why would you want that? Trust me, the college years are the good years. You just need to relax more. Life is not as complicated as you're making it out to be and things have a way to fall in place.

Life has greatly change as before. Our educational system has tremendously improve through the years offering different levels of studies in various subjects. This ofcourse happened because of the humanized knowledge we are into. There is so mouch competition and life has been complicated and competitive. You must just accept the system we are in now.
You are too young and have great hopes before you.
Thanks for asking. Have a great day!

Life is hard! That's why we need to focus on eternal life. My neighbors have a simple life, they don't spend much money and don't have to make much. They give up electricity, indoor plumbing and automobiles for the simple life. Our lives are simple compared to our forefathers, but that does not make them easy.
