I think so... especially if you want it to last. I think it'd be harder to be lovers and then try to be friends

Hi Baby, Yes I believe it is the only way to go. You really get to know the person and see anything in this person that causes you to be uncomfortable.Talk open and honest and never hide anything from one and the other. Friends before Lovers I do agree.
A Friend,

My sweetheart and I met right here on yahoo answers and started emailing each other soon afterwards and developed a friendship based on trust, respect and admiration for each other and really geting to know each other. This went on for several months and I would always be thrilled when she would write me. Then we started calling each other and during our first phone call, I realized that I was in love with her. All this without ever having met in person. Then we met in person finally in Dec 2006 and it was as if we had known each other all of our lives. Now we are together and living here in Georgia and a very happy couple.

Actually my ex-husband and I were friends first and it didn't work out, my husband now and I dove right into our relationship and have been married for 13 yrs now, but we did live together for two yrs first which I am so glad that we did, it showed us that we could handle each others annoying habits okay, I am sure that there are a lot of people out there that were friends first and it worked out well for them, just depends on the couple I guess.

It is best, doesn't always happen but it is. My husband and I were great friends before we stepped up to that level. It's great because you can always talk to them as your friend and they don't judge. Being married you can still do that.

To have a chance at having a long term relationship based on something beside your physical attraction I think you need to be friends first!
