As sad as it may be I honestly do not believe that humans are capable of sustained peace and bliss. However I do believe that we can find both within ourselves. And that's a personal journey to each of us.

The four conditions of man.
1. primary - wherein he lives life by trial and error, reacting and learning as he progresses.
2. The learned man. He gains knowledge, makes fewer mistakes and is one step beyond total exposure and susceptibility to the elements of life and society.
3. When man gains understanding and a quiet concillatory accord with the world about him.
4. The highest state of being. When man finds peace through the application of understanding in life. This frees him from the hell of ignorance, fear, hate, and need. Only when at this state can he them love for the sake of love rather than to satisfy a need or allay fear of solitude or social rejection. The awakened spirit, the elevated soul, the open and enlightened mind.
This state of bliss once attained grants man respect and social status, he finds bliss in the smallest minute things in everyday life, and is content, aroused, inspired and above all at peace, Amen.

You betcha. But desperation has always turned man's learning curve to straight up. Rose colored glasses, happy thoughts, blissful communing with the gods, don't mean a damn to the likes of dictators, megalomaniacs, and the extremely paranoid. Trust me on this bubba, keep your powder dry, and don't go out during the full moon. There are meat eaters out there.

Absolutely true.... sustainable peace and bliss demands getting free from one's own ego.... whenever I have experienced blissful joy and tranquil peace of mind, it has always been the case when I have forgotten myself completely... in other words when my ego had been put away on the shelf either willfully or otherwise. It is the ego driven concern for or awareness of oneself that causes all the pain and stress in our mind.
To look at it from another angle, all the pain and stress to our mind is caused by our inability to accept something happening..... it is our ego that makes us judge any event as either favorable or unfavorable and accordingly make us welcome or reject.... this is what causes the lack of acceptance and thereby the unwanted disturbance of mind.

The teachins are that they are the very nature of "Being". To seek for them is the basis for the "feeling" of lacking them.
