It depend on the nature of the individual, peer group, family, social status, and their 'willingness' to conform to a given stereotype. For example, 'Willow's' parents may have been 1960's rebellious, flower power, hipply types from lower-middle cass socio-economoc status. Through age, maturity became stable, middle class professionals, in government jobs. Willow then, instead of going down an expected 'arty' career path, may become active in politics. Clean cut 'shirt and tie job'. All because he was not influenced by his parents in their younger years, rather their more mature expectations of him. Therefore, he is not conforming to the stereotype of his name. Similarly, Dexters parents may be government, computer types, high middle-class! and in his formative years he is influenced by the 'cool gang' from lower socio-economic status. Peer pressure is affecting the stereotype here. He goes AWOL, and drifts in and out of work, recovering from bouts of alcoholism/substance abuse. He is not fitting the stereotype and plans layed out for him by his parents! So our genetics, family and socio-economic status only sets us at a slight advantage on a given path. It is our education system, friends/peer groups, personality type, self-esteem,etc, that eventually determines who or what we become.
