We just had a major Ice & snow storm here in Iowa. My 2004 Chevy Impala got stuck in the snow. I had to gun it to get it un-stuck. I drove it about 15 miles. It ran fine. I stopped at the store and let it run for over an hour while I was inside. Then I drove it about 1/2 mile up the road and it died. The battery is strong. It still turns over. It acts as if it's out of gas. It has 1/4 tank of gas in it and has always ran like crap when it only had 1/4 tank of gas. One person tells me I may have flooded it while getting it un-stuck from the snow. One person tells me It sounds like the fuel pump took a dump because he could'nt "hear it" when starting the car. Any suggestions? Facts about this car: 2004 Chevy Impala, 160,000 miles.
Ex-police car. Just had fuel filter changed and vapor cylinoide changed.

It sounds like you have a bad fuel pump. Very common problem
with GM vehicles.
Turn the key to on and listen for a low hum coming from the fuel tank. No hum would mean a bad pump.
Also, maybe add a gallon of gas or two. Your gas gauge might be inaccurate. At least make sure you have some gas in it!
Good luck.

Just a thought. Check to be sure you did not bend your tailpipe or plug it up with mud. This will cause problems. Also try removing the gas cap when you get low on fuel you can build high pressure in the tank if this solves your problem you need a new cap or a fuel tank vent. Next if you can't here the fuel pump pressure up when you first turn the key on then you most likely have a bad pump or you may have a loose connector at the pump. Due to the fact you were stuck makes me wonder about something that could be related to that You Know what I mean? Check for the obvious things first Thanks Bill B

Your fuel gauge might not be reading properly.
Wow, that's a lot of mileage on it.
I wouldn't spend too much on it to get it fixed.
Find yourself something else soon.
