I think most Americans know that cricket is a similar sport to baseball, even if they don't know many of the rules. It's very popular in certain areas here in Canada, especially in large immigrant communities. I was in Brampton last year (Toronto suburb) and it was the first time I'd ever seen a park that had fields for soccer and cricket, but no baseball diamond. I played cricket with some Indian friends when I was younger, but have never followed the game - those multi-day matches are just too much for me.
As to the phrase, I don't think I've ever heard it used.

Cricket is a cell phone company! LOL
The sport is so antiquated that it doesn't even register in this former British colony. We have advanced and evolved so far from it, it's like comparing Peking or Java Man to the 21st Century! Even Creationists & Intellectual Designists deny Crickets existance because it's too old to be in the Bible.
The game is best served in the rest of the former British Empire, just not the US and Canada! Sorry, ol' Chap.

Yes, most Americans associate the word "cricket" with the chirpy insect.

Not many people do, I am sure that some out there may just because with travel being as easy as it is these days people fly across the pond quite a bit. My friends mostly using the phrase "Don't be a Raider fan" when telling someone to back off poor sportmanship.

No, that's not realistic. Most Americans don't care about European sports, particularly Cricket. This seems more like a lawn game than a sport. Not much athleticism.
No offense.

Nope We play baseball, football, basketball and hockey.
Cricket to us is just an insect. We say it's not good sports-man-ship when refering to bad behavior.

Nope. American Gentiles do say "it's not kosher," though, which is quite funny when one thinks about it.
