Why is it that if youre begging for money for yourself its illegal but if your begging for money for others...

its charity? I mean whens the last time you came across a bell ringing santa that wasnt wasted anyhow? In my mind I would think that begging for money for yourself is best as at least your kinda working for it... Isnt it kinda like outsourced bumming?

Well, I've never seen a wasted Santa bell ringer. Salvation Army pays minimum wage in my state for bell ringers.

I've often wondered if much of the time the money collected by people to "help others" isn't just pocketed by the ones doing the collecting. I was in a fast food a couple of years ago when a lady came in with a picture of young child that she claimed was the victim of a gang shooting--a common enough occurence as to be unquestioned in the L.A. area--and said she was collecting donations for his funeral. I gave her some money.

A few weeks later I happened to run into the same lady, with the same picture, trying to collect money for the same funeral. Now, I could be mistaken, but I seriously doubt that her collecting was for a legitimate cause; I think she was collecting for herself.

I'm much more suspicious these days.

My 14 year old daughter sells chocolates to raise money for herself. This year she has sold around 640 pounds of chocolate. A guy with a truck pulls up out the front of our house and gets a dang trolley out to carry the boxes in!

Charity is a lot easier if you are actually buying something for your donation.

i think it should be illegal to approach someones house asking for money for charities.

i hate being put on the spot. i donate to my two chosen charities and I simply can't afford to donate to any more. I'm not rich.
