They KNOW it is illegal, but they still moan and groan.

Still, never mind......

God, this opened up a can of worms, one chap even says the government push nicotine and alcohol on you! I am 46, I have never seen anyone push that on me, its legal, dope is not, why is it that some people just do not want to follow rules? if we were all like that..... and, as for the cops just after weed-heads, well, I am a copper, I do not spend my time chasing them, but, if I see some guy or gal smoking weed in the market square of my home town, then yes, i will nail them BEFORE they think about getting behind the wheel of a car, or influencing the kids of my town, whilst I do not condone it, if its done at home and they wish to skin-up there, I am not there to see it am I, but if they are brazen enough or stupid enough to smoke it or carry it in public then they are not observing the rules set are they?

Same reason why people moan about getting caught out by speed cameras!

Some laws seem unjustified to some people. Why does the government push alcohol and nicotine on people, yet cannabis (and many other drugs covered by the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971) is illegal. It is a huge contradiction. May be if the government banned nicotine and alcohol, the number of cannabis users who moan, might be reduced. Or may be if the United Nations Convention Against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances changed their policies, thus enabling individual governments to change their policies on drug use (e.g. decriminalise all drugs), we might have less people in prisons , more money to spend on health care (through taxation of the decriminalised drugs) but also through the reduced risk of drug related illness, more resources for the police to deal with murder, rape, terrorism etc. Just a few points.

EDIT: AfeastA, I used to work for the National Health Service as Substance Misuse Therapist, and I can tell you that many people have had road traffic accidents due to being heavily intoxicated, be it MDMA, Cocaine, Alcohol, Prescribed Medication and/or Cannabis. Sadly, not everyone is as road savvy as they should be!
Edit: DJones, the Misuse of Drugs Act is not fit for purpose. It has no logic to it. It was based on minimal scientific data from the pre1960's, commercial interests, and religious doctrine. http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200506/cmselect/cmsctech/1031/1031.pdf Even the governments own Sceince and Technology Select Committee agreed that it was outdated (please read to see that it was a cross party report, with members of the public, science community, religious community, etc etc adding to the report)

Because most people who smoke marijuana don't think it should be illegal. And many who don't even smoke it agree. And many doctors also agree that it should at least be legal for medicinal use.
Yeah man, lets fill up the jails with those nasty dope smokers and leave the real criminals who rape and kill and steal out on the streets. What a waste!
EDIT: for Katy S, your answer is truly annoying only because it shows your complete and utter ignorance. You obviously don't know any dope smokers.

There is nothing wrong with cannabis, if smoked at home. The tabaco company who won't let it become legal they would lose allot of business. Why not make cigarettes and Alcohol illegal then. It is too easy to grow cannabis. I personally don't smoke, but then again I don't smoke cigarettes either.

they moan and groan because cops spend more time chasing cannabis smokers than cocaine/heroin dealers.

you get caught with weed and they take you to the station etc.

you get caught importing/supplying a class A drug you can get sentences reduced via various methods.

So who do you think deserves the harsher punishment?

The only thing that the police are good for is catching people smoke weed.

Cannabis is a class C drug. The maximum penalty for possessing a class C drug is 2 YEARS in prison and / or an unlimited fine. The maximum penalty for supplying is 14 YEARS.

It's about time that the police force used this.

You can write to your MP to get it reclassified back to class B.

I have.

because law is derived from ETHICS as you should already know...while tobacco, whiskey, even salvia isn't being debated marijuana (a natural plant created by god) is "only used by criminals" what kind of crime has no victim? what are legislatures saying "God make a mistake?" "oh my me, i accidently created pot and left it growing on every continent except antarctica" hey there's an idea, if you dont like pot you can move to antarctica! cause seriously if you want to cut down on crime ie (illegal blackmarkets) all you have to do is legalize it and the dealers will have to get real jobs.

those numbers (if they even exist) are nowhere near the amounts of ALCOHOL RELATED TRAFFIC COLLISIONS...seriously when's the last time you heard of someone was high and driving and ran someone over.

Because they only left the basement to get something to eat. They never shut off the x-box before they left the house because they couldn't save their progress until they reached a checkpoint, it's on pause. If they're not released within 6 hours, the x-box will automatically shut off and he'll have to start that level all over again.
