Yes. If its the combined (oestrogen + progesterone) pill and you haven't missed any days you should be covered after 2 weeks of taking the pill. (provided you stay on it of course)
This is also provided you haven't been sick (with vomitting/diarrhoea) and you haven't been on any other medications which interfere with the pill metabolism (in particular, antibiotics).
Remember though, it's 99 (point whatever) % effective.

Assuming like the previous person said, that you have finished 1 pack of pills and have started your second pack and haven't missed any pills, then by the time you start your second pack, you should be protected BUT you have to keep taking your pills. When you stop taking the pills, you are at risk for pregnancy
HOWEVER, you should still use a condom to protect against HIV and herpes, warts, cervical cancer, unless you both were virgins and have had no other partners.
of course, when in doubt, call your doctor. that's why they are paid.

wow i guess things have changed since I was on the pill cause I was always told not to even think they would protect you until you had been on them for atleast 3 months. Your body is trying to get used to the change that the pill inflicts on it... I would be careful! and really why didnt your OBGYN tell you the scoop? Weird!

You are protected at the 99% effectiveness rate of the pill.
Which means, you still risk a chance of pregnancy.
