A ring is just a symbol to remind her of your love, If she questions your symbol, You better question her love.

............I would agree with you WHOLEHEARTEDLY............money, gold, it's all for the ego. I used to have a jewelry box with old engagement rings / wedding rings in it; how ridiculous and shallow is that? I gave them away to charity. Money is just something you just throw off the back of a train, I've never had a lot of it, and I never intend to, because when I have it, I use it to enjoy myself or help others. It simply is not important, unless you make it important or allow it to be...............and then you need to question yourself about your values, and how much time your spending watching tv, or looking at people magazine......and trying to be someone your not..................and why would you want to be someone your not??? Are those people really happier or better off than you are?
................and good point about frugality. A fair amount of those young ladies polled, are answering in a manner "to save face" they would be thrilled with a "ring"...............doesn't matter where it comes from, most young women are so thirsty for commitment, just " a ring " would thrill them, so don't be fulled by that answer; it's just a pride thing.

My Uncle Ray bought my Aunt Marie a diamond engagement ring in 1959, with all of his savings and a wedding gift from his parents (male dowry). My aunt took it back to the jeweler and sat there all day until they relented and made the refund, they did not want to take it back.. she took the cash and bought a fourplex in San Diego, Today they own 12 apartment complexes, three hotels, two camp grounds, and 16 "retirement village" style trailer courts, one of them seaside.
If she had taken the ring it might be in a pawnshop somewhere and they might be living in one of those trailer parks...

dont think that was referring to money really
for me it would be a no no
but
thats because i would want to try the ring on, and, i would also like to have the experience of ring shopping together
its all part of the excitement of getting married
NOTHING to do with monetary value

I agree with you. But then, I'm a gay man and we gay guys are not generally concerned with big, flashy engagement rings when we find the man we love. To me, it's the symbolism that counts, not a big, gaudy ring to show all my friends.
