I have been retired 1 1/2 years and I took early retirement because of my health. I had looked forward to it and it is all I had hoped for. All you people just starting out in the work world, it is your responsibility to take care of yourself and plan for your future retirement. I really hate it when I read "I'm screwed, there won't be any money left". Make your own money, begin a Roth IRA, always make contributions to a pension plan at work. The government isn't in business to take care of you and frankly, neither are your children. Take some responsibility now and if it becomes a habit, you will contribute to your old age and retirement every year until you get there, no problem.

Pensions are just another new Labour con trick. As a self-employed person I have until recently, contributed the maximum permissible by the tax legislation to my pensions. I am now in my mid fifties and Gordon Brown's raid on pensions a few years back, the economic slowdown caused in no small measure by the Northern Rock c***-*p and the extent to which we are being soaked by taxes despite Gordon Brown's posturing about the economy doing well because of his management of it (he's been lucky, not prudent), and the unrealistically low interest rates necessary to correct the position we find ourselves in so we can buy our way out of trouble with imported goods instead of manufacturing our own products, have all meant that my chances of ever retiring are just about zero. When I think of all the current enjoyment I have foregone (holidays not taken, cars not bought, etc.) in order to fund my pensions and all for nothing, it is sickening to realise that my life has been wasted when I'll be no better off than those who have saved b*****r all and will rely on the state to look after them in their old age.

I retired early and love it. I get out of bed when I want and no one is looking over shoulder any more. How would you like to take you vacation from work and never have to go back? I actually feel sorry for the people when I witness a rush-hour.

We used to talk about retirement with a longing we couldn't describe. Then we moved to Florida from Cape Cod, Ma and decided to take a year off. We were 37 and 41(4 years ago). My husband lasted 4 weeks and drove us both crazy. He went right back to work, but I took the year off...and loved it. We've decided we'll need to stay very busy when we do retire.

From this job yes. I can't wait for 6 more years. I'm hoping they fly by. I'll have 2 retirements coming in & then get a fun job closer to home. I commute 4 hours a day for this!!! Jobs closer to home don't pay well at all.

Not really, I believe working keeps a person young and vibrant. I know people in their late 70's working and they act younger than I do. Once I retire from my job I plan on working part time and staying busy. I refuse to stay home rocking in a chair doing nothing. I have to have the social environment♥

not really iam still young, but if i would be 65 already and is about to retire i think it would be nice to stay in one harmonious place, it could be in Baguio here in our country and in Batangas near a beach, i am a nature lover so i would rather have those things when i retire but of course i would also look forward to that big payment from my company
