The dry cleaner charges extra and I don't think it really gets clean. Is there a trick to keeping the fringes from getting tangled into a mass of yarn?

Delicates cycle. hang over banner or lay out to dry. When dried gently shake it out. or...
take it to the dry cleaners.

A word of warning. I washed a chenille throw last summer in the machine. When the cycle had finished I opened the door to find a million or so balls of fabric. The actual throw was virtually bald !! It was as though all the furry pile had come off.
If you wash, do so gently by hand. The vigorous action of a machine destroyed mine.

Don't put it in the washing machine!!!!!

I washed mine on gentle cycle this summer because my daughter spilled milk on it... opened the washing machine to find EVERYTHING with red balls on it and the throw was such a mangled mess, I had to throw it away! Maybe you could try the "Dryel" things that you put it into a bag into the dryer... good luck!

Handwash is probably best although you could possibly get away with 'delicates' setting on your machine and if you do use your machine tie-up or braid the fringe to stop it knotting-up.

wash on a gentle cycle with fabric conditioner. or if its not too big wash by hand and then just a quick run through the spin drier. propably you will have to untangle a bit though.

I cant think of any, but there are dry cleaning kits you put in your dryer that have worked well for my jackets.
