This morning you might have gone to the temple , but later in the morning treated your servent like a second class citzen.you might beat your wife for not producing a son
You might have gone to the mosque yet will steal from your neighbour or tell lies for your own needs.
You might have gone to church and then gone out to rob or visit a brothel with your wife at home.
Why ask forgivness from god when it is your family that is real and is the one you hurt.

One of the main problems I have with most theistic approaches is how they often shift burden and personal responsibility away from the individual in a number of ways; "I was created as an imperfect being", "I need external validation or forgiveness", "whatever happens is God's will", etc.

I agree that this shift of responsibility not only affects people's abilities to both see and assess themselves objectively, it also interferes with true assessments and dealings of pain caused to those around you.

Of course, there also are some rather heinous, Machiavellian and pain-inducing acts done every day that have nothing to do with religion or asking for God's forgiveness - perhaps only the level of personal responsibility and accountability is different?

Good question!

Because in the Bible there are commandments and regulations, such as not stealing, or loving your wife, loving your neighbor, not falling into temptation/adultery/fornication/lusts of the flesh. The Bible is God's word to us, therefore if we go and break His commandments and regulations, we are offending God. So that is why we must apologize to God and the people we offended for full forgiveness, which God will forgive. "If we confess our sins, then He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I forget what verse in the Bible that is.

Remember Saul? He persecuted Christians and one day a voice said to Saul saying that he was hurting God by persecuting Christians(His Body). That is also the same in this case...hurting(physical/emotional) members of the Body.

I do manytimes wonder like you.

If I had knowingly hurted others then I used to beg forgiveness from them only. I really don't want them to get hurted......... but sometimes my feelings are beyond my control due to pressure and stress I am facing.

I don't feel shy or egoistic to say "SORRY" and beg forgiveness.

But I ask forgiveness from God for the deeds that I might have done unknowingly or without my knowledge. Because, "If ONE have to win then MANY have to loose for that".

All those who lost will definetly be hurted. This is human nature. I ask forgiveness from God for these kind of things.

This is a no-brainer. In one incident, Jesus said to first settle things with your brother before going into the temple to worship God. First be reconciled with your family and then seek forgiveness from God.

I don't see anywhere in the Bible where just asking God for forgiveness is approved.

because when you hurt others, you also hurt God, and you need to ask you're family's forgiveness as well

"whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren, you do unto Me." It hurts God when we victimize our loved ones; your family are God's children as well, don't you think he deserves an apology for hurting him/his children?
