You are right we need these $$$ to provide welfare for guys like Paul Allen, Scotty Pippen and Lee Bass. Screw those kids with no health care and not enough food to eat. We need to keep those $$$ targeted at billionaires!!!! After all that is the Republican Consitituency. Nice ethics!!!!

Good joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep them coming. Wow talk about generalizations! Is that what Republicans like to do, look at the stereotypes?
Did you know that 25 percent of the homeless population are veterans and 33 percent are families? They aren't even getting that educaiton you're speaking of. They go from place to place looking for a decent meal and a place for shelter.
The veterans on the street may need medical care or god forbid treatment for Schizophrenia or PTSD. Yet, the VA itself has turn their back on them.
I would much rather have a Universal Health Care. For a developed coutry our infant mortality rate is astonishingly high. Our health care system has become a joke. The elderly get put into homes and are rarely visited.
The rich are getting richer the poor are getting poorer, but no one cares unless it is happening to them. You talk about education like sending a child to a private school makes them a better person since they didn't go to a public school? There's a big joke if I ever heard one.
You talk about Hilary Clinton never getting elected and state that the country will be driven into the ground. What have you been smoking Bush has already driven the United States into the ground! America has become a joke across the internatinal community and no one respects the United States anymore because we have a leader who as the Linkin Park song goes "stutters and mumbles, it's like what did he say!" Come on change is coming and it's going to be the liberals in office for a change.

Me. As I always state- there are exceptions- but liberals in general are the bane of society.
I live in Michigan where the Democratic party runs virtually everything- every big city, the governorship and the state house- and the state is becoming the economic equivalent of Chernobyl. No business wants to locate here because of the militant unions, the "sense of entitlement" for doing nothing, the highest unemployment in the country and high taxes which get you the worst infrastructure this side of Baghdad.
Jennifer Granholm is a microcosm for how Hillary Clinton would run this country...... and it isn't pretty. Pandering to unions and do nothings while soaking everyone in taxes who actually has a work ethic. And before the brainless twit liberals blame the Big 3 management or George Bush for Michigan's woes- Democrats have had 5 years to change things in Michigan and things get progressively WORSE every year. Heck they are still blaming the last Republican governor for Michigan's mess- and he was out of office 5 YEARS AGO.
Again- think long and hard America because if you vote in a dummycrat- the entire country will be driven into the ground as Michigan has.

It's unfortunate that you think that people who don't work are all lazy. You would be surprised at the number of people who truly can't work due to disabilities. You are lucky that you are able to care for yourself.
I think that when you retire you will be glad to have health insurance at all since employer's no longer care about those who work for them, let alone those who don't.
Call me a liberal if you wish, but I have always felt that in a caring society the haves have a responsibility for the have-nots.
Many of us pay taxes for many things we don't use. Like it or not that's life & Democrats aren't the only party who has voted for measures for the good of society as a whole.
If anyone has driven the country into the ground it's Bush. We are paying a million dollars a day in interest on the deficit he has created for an unjust & unnecessary war.

I'm not from America, but I get what you're saying. Amusingly enough, in Australia it's the liberals that actually look after people who work hard for their money! Interesting.
I totally agree though - why should someone who went to uni, got a degree, and works as a professional with all the risks, responsibilities, stress, risk of persecution etc then have to pay 40c out of a dollar in taxes to carry the weight of people too lazy to do it themselves? In Australia at least, people can't use the excuse of not being able to pay for an education, because we have some fantastic state schools, and all of our best universities are available on HECS (you don't pay your fees until you are earning over a certain $ figure/year).
It's kind of infuriating.
(Since you _technically_ mentioned communism, I'd also like to mention that if a garbage collector was paid as much as a dentist or lawyer or doctor etc, _nobody_ would be doing those difficult jobs. Nice in theory but communism don't work ;))
I don't mean to suggest that people with disabilities shouldn't be supported, or people who have worked and retired. Of course taxes should exist - public health care, schools, universities, _roads_ etc, are all awesome. But I know that the reason a whole lot of people are in the lower working class is that they don't have money management skills, or they don't work hard, or attempt to excel in their jobs. I have no sympathy for people happy to laze around all day, happy in the knowledge that their government will support them.Of course not everyone is like this, but in this day and age there is little excuse for a lack of education. or at least, if an individual lacks an extensive education they should make sure their children get one.

I am so sick of the Democrats view of "BLAME AMERICA 1st." attitude. They say our Health care would be better if we ran it like Europe or Canada. If so, then why in the hell is everyone coming from foreign countries to the US for Surgeries etc..? There are more people coming here than people leaving to get care. And why are Democrats toying around with funding our troops. They won't give our Troops money unless the President gives into their special interest funding.
The Democrats are crying about water-boarding when in fact it has uncovered a lot of potential attacks against us and our troops. They want to close down our terrorist prison in Cuba and release them back to the country of origin (yea, They'll work). The terrorist prisoners have more rights than our military prisoners held by terrorist and prisoners in our criminal justice prisons. Democrats think we are losing the war when in fact Again! We are winning and the Troop surge is working. I became a Republican this year Oct. 2007 because I got tired of the Negative Blame America First attitude by the Democrats. I have only voted Republican once in over 16years. They will get my vote

41% of your hard earned tax dollars are currently funding the military. The Iraq war cost $456 billion. For that every person in the US could run their car for 1.2 years FREE, for that the Government could convert every car in the US to ethanol, for that the government could give FREE medicare for a year to evey person in the US, for that the Government could build 2,949 Newton North High Schools, massachusets or 14.4 Million free rides through Harvard for a year, 44 Million through UMass. We could also have fed and educated the worlds poor children for 51/2 years......all of them.
I could go on, just have a think about it, you may see my point.

I'm not tired of it. I'm a little sick of conservatives twisting liberal thoughts into what they aren't, but I guess that's what I get for listening to Rush Limbaugh.
You should be thankful for public education and be happy to help support it. Without public education, the poor could not get educated and get a decent job like you. If the uneducated poor are ignored, the United States would probably have a proletariot revolution just like the Russians during WWI. Then we'd all be communist.

That whole silly arguement/rant depends entirely on having a job that pays well enough, in a stable setting, that is socialy responsable, and is secure.
Contrary to what your government tells you, USA is backward in so many areas. ALL of the commonwealth countries (Australia, England, Canada etc.) have a resonable public healthcare system, high standard of education (i'm studying law, and yes i went to public school), and a slightly less individualistic ethos.
And yet it's not my government spying on me by tapping the phone lines. Ask youself, is it really that great in your world? you know how to contact me if you want.

I think most of these people are motivated by compassion and because they are uninformed and lied to every day while some seek to finish us off by seizing full control of health care, they think this is a legitimate answer.
FACTS are rarely disclosed to the American public about health care.
People do NOT understand their health plans. Here's three bits of logical proof:
Most bankruptcies are for medical bills and most of those folks have insurance;
Predatory lenders moved in knowing that this is another way to make a dishonest buck from the most vulnerable:
http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/nov2007/db20071120_397008.htm
When health care insurance questions are asked, many YA members honestly believe if they get hit with something major they'll pay about $50 until they're well or that there is a cap of some smallish sum, like $3K to finish off a year's expenses. This is false (see above two points).
People don't understand how dramatically SOME medical prices have DECREASED:
LASIK
plastic surgery
Why? Because insurance is rarely involved and regulation is modest. Therefore true market forces can prevail and docs can be efficient.
Few have heard about programs like:
http://www.simplecare.com/
The public does NOT know how the VA operates (rationed care) and each years' means test can push more vets OUT of coverage or up their co-pays, etc. This doesn't get covered by the media.
The public does NOT know about the inequities of IHS (Indian Health Service) getting about half per capita that other programs do. Media won't cover it.
The public does NOT understand Medicare. Premiums in 1998: $43.80, 2008 $96.40. Over the decade benefits not up 100%+ and many drug coverages lowered by Medicare HMOs to conform to fed system AND more 20% co-pays even when on an HMO Medicare. Doctors leaving because the government tries to balance this Ponzi scheme on THEIR backs by decreasing THEIR payments.
The list goes on. Facts, however, show that free market works, rigged sytsems do not.
Larger world of universal health care:
The Fraser Institute (Canadian) was hired to determine what was going on in Alberta and said by 2016 that HALF of the province's budget would go to health care if they keep the current system. By 2030, 100% of the budget would be consumed by health care. (“Canada’s health
system dream turns to nightmare,” 11 June 2004, Dr. Glueck).
Let's also realize that enough Canadian doctors find the system so stressful that WE get 500 of them a year from that small country coming to the US. (Bell, “Step into the single-payer rabbit hole,” April 2001, amsa.org). Also a 2003 survey of Canadian doctors found that nearly half were burnt out and 12% had thoughts of suicide (staffweb.uleth.ca).
The government is thinking about delisting some services (not offering them anymore). Thankfully there has been a proliferation of ILLEGAL for-profit health centers through Canada so Canadians can get care without leaving Canada. This is so needed that the president of the Canadian Medical Association headed such an ILLEGAL facility. They're illegal not because these are not qualified doctors, but because if the government offers a service, then the private sector is not supposed to in Canada. ("Individual Freedom vs. Government Control,” 1 August 2007, nationalreview.com).
Great Britain has the oldest national health system started in 1948. “Staff are being laid off, and deficits are at an alltime high (£1.07bn for 2005-2006)” (Hazel Blears, LabourParty Chair and Minister Without Portfolio, labourachievements. blogspot.com/2006/08/23-investment-innhs...
Alex Smallwood of the British Medical Association was quoted in the
Scotsman as saying: “’Rationing is reduction in choice. Rationing has become a necessary evil. We need to formalise rationing to prevent an unregulated, widening, postcodelottery of care. Government no longer has a choice.’” (Moss,
“NHS rationing is ‘necessary evil,’ says doctors,” 26 June 2007).
In France, 80% of the public have supplemental health insurance through their employers according to their web site (ambafrance-us.org). Private medical care in France is providing more than 50% of the surgeries and more than 60% of cancer case treatment. Vision and dental care are not well covered there. “The public system is facing chronic deficits and recent cost containment policies have not proved very successful.” The government is interested in
having more of the tab picked up by private insurance (Buchmueller & Couffinhall, “Private Health Insurance in France,” 2004, oecd.org).
Yes there are problems in Japan, the Netherlands, and Sweden as well for sure. Universal health care does NOT work. Governments overpromise, jack up taxes, ration medicine, and more.
Though they mean well, there is a reason for the saying that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. It's true. Founders said to be responsible for ourselves and practice charity. Government programs are the antithesis of charity. The Founders were right.
Oh check out this plan in PDF. It STARTS as a government program because MILLIONS are ON such programs BUT transitions to private sector:
