I am not a fan of Christmas decorations to begin with. Whoever said red and green actually looked good together anyway? It is my first christmas in my own home with my husband, and I decided not to put up any decorations. 1.) I don't like them. 2.) We don't have any, and can't afford to buy some. 3.) There is no room, we have a small house.4.) We have so many places to be on Christmas Eve and Day, we won't be home at all. I will put them up once we have children, and I still buy for everyone and go visit and enjoy the holiday, but my whole family thinks I am scrooge for not putting up at least a tree. What do you think? Has anyone else decided not to put up a tree when it is just adults in the house?

you're not a scrooge. so you don't make a HUUUGE thing out of xmas decorations. big deal. if you're not there to enjoy it, what's the point of putting them up? it's your choice. so tell other people to get over the fact that you aren't a big decorator.

I have to friends and this is the first year that they are putting up a tree, one of them went and got it last night I guess and all of the decorations. 2 years ago when I met them they didn't do christmas decorations as their apt. was a little too and they each when to their own family's for Christmas (they're roommates). When I got there and didn't see a tree I thought it strange that they didn't have a tree or any kind of christmas decoration whatsoever, even though it made since. So no I don't think you are a scrooge for not doing it because you have valid reason not to do it especially the second one.

Too many people loose perspective over what Christmas is about. For starters - it's a religious holiday marked to observe a religious event. Though not all people celebrate Christmas for the meaning it has, it can still be shared as a time when you give of yourself and come together with family.

In this day, we spend our Christmas time shopping, going into debt, fighting over parking spots and the last of (insert item here), getting up at 2am to be the first in line for a sale, and bragging about what you bought or got. Others spend it trying to be the biggest and best decorated home on the block, while the rest sit and worry about what they will tell their kids when Santa doesn't leave at LEAST one toy under the tree because they are poor.

Christmas is about NONE of the above. It's about remembering those you love, those who need love, and seeing how deep into your heart you can reach to give of yourself - not material wise, but spiritually.

Being a Scrooge is not lacking the desire to decorate your home in the latest trend of christmas lighting, or sticking a tree in your living room (what's that got to do with God anyway?) and throwing a bunch of ornaments on it.

I have four children and no Christmas decorations in my home. My kids make their own little decor to hang in their room when they are feeling festive and usually they do these things together. It's fun to them, and they enjoy doing it because it's time well spent together. We've no need for a tree. It's useless, represents nothing, and is a complete waste of money. Santa comes and leaves each child one gift and they opt to keep the gift or give it away to someone less fortunate. Some years they keep them - some years they give them away. It's their decision. None of our choices make us a "scrooge" though. It makes us unique and aware of WHY Christmas exists.

Be proud of who you are. Let the other lemmings do as they wish. If you don't find a purpose in following the rest of the crowd - then don't. There's no law (yet) that says you've got to decorate your home in Christmas crap. LOL

Go to wal-mart... you can get boxes of lights for a dollar. Go to the office supply section... buy push pins... Put lights around your window sill behind the blindes. tada... it costed you maybe a total of 3 dollars... christmas can be cheap. It doesn't mean you don't wanna be a scrooge it just means you don't wanna be a christmas freak and spend a crap load of money and you'd rather save! You just got into a new house.. ppl need to give you a break. Starting a life is not cheap and once children come it gets harder. Congrats on the new house, merry x-mas.

You have made the big deal of this, and your family and friends perceive it. Change the way you make your presentation (answer) to them, and you will find you get a different response. Start by simply not bringing it up. If they do, try a gentle response, say, "Oh, the house is as small as our budget, so when we have expanded the square footage and our extra cash, we will be decorating." You have to phrase it your own way, but make sure it doesn't have the resentful tone your question conveys.

No Sammie Jo you are not a Scrooge, bit of a Grinch maybe, but not a Scrooge, just kidding. For this year take the practical approach, why not, once the knee biters come along you won't be able to get away with it....

That's a whole lot better than the kinds of people that put up their tree after Thanksgiving and leave them there until Valentine's Day!!!

And I had some ethnic neighbors that actually left their outside lights on year round because it saved them from having to reinstall them annually! How classy!
