I put a bunch of stuff on it, now i want to get rid of it

You can't erase it.

You can damage it to the point where no one can retrieve the information.

Putting some deep gouges on the surface or breaking in into pieces will prevent any casual snoopers from getting to the information.

If you want to keep anyone (the government) from looking at it, you need to shred the disk or incinerate it.

If you want to just break it in half, the broken pieces are sharp and can fly around. Wrap it in some old newspaper or something and wear gloves to prevent injury. Some paper shredders come with a slot for destroying DVD/CDs. If you know someone who has one, this is the simplest option.

You can also destroy the information by melting/burning the disk. This stinks really bad. Don't try it indoors.

you can't.
you need DVD-RW which stands for ReWritable. With DVD-R whatever you save on there once that's it, you can't edit it.

too bad you can only use DVD-R to burn music,lousy stupid cd companies.
