I believe that science will one day defeat the aging process. Since our bodies constantly renew themselves, there really is no reason why we have to age and die.

Current thought on this is that we have this substance in our cells called telomerase (hope i spelled it right) that acts as a fuse or countdown timer. The longer we live the shorter the fuse gets. I'm sure that is just one of many aging mechanisms in our bodies.

Right now the answer is no.

But soon... soon I think society will see 150 years as just the beginning.

Genes have been discovered in experimental animals which can cause them to live three times as long with the vitality of teenagers the whole time. Certain diets have been found which expand the lifespan and health of creatures who engage in it by 50% (drug companies are already working on producing a pill that has the same effect). The recent discovery that can produce stem cells from adult tissue involves restoring the DNA to the undamaged state of an embryo.

All the tools are rapidly assembling in the box. It is quite possible that you or I will live long enough to see them developed, which will allow us to live long enough to see better ones produced, which may ultimately allow us to simply never have to worry about 'old age'.

I understand that research is in an advanced stage to slow down the aging process which can have the potential to double the normal life expectancy.

However, I believe that what we really need is not more quantity of life which would simply be more oppressive if the quality is not improved.... we are rather starved of the quality of life and we are regressing in this respect rather than progressing.

Not yet. The way things are going, why would anyone want too. I just heard a man who turned 111 say he was bored out of his mind and all his friends and family are dead. Sounds like so much fun, where do I sign up?
