I need to build a couple of light boxes, for my photo hobby.

Basically, they would be for a model to stand, sit, and pose on.

I need to know some thickness's, of glass and or plexi-glass, that would work for that. Lets assume, 200 pounds tops (for safety), wearing heels.

The frame would be built with a 1" lip, lined with felt, for the glass to rest on.

The sizes I am thinking of are: 18"x18", and 24"x36".

And, until I can actually contact a local glass company, maybe approximate cost of said glass/plexi. Just as a guesstimate.

i would use glass, plex will scratch real easy.

1/2" tempered glass will alst longer
with polished edges

18 x 18 $65.00 ish
24 x 36 $100.00 depends were you live
cost a little more but easier to take care of--cleaning etc..

Hey Photo Guy,

In my last house I built a loft into a room with a high ceiling. In the space I had a 1inch thick x 3'x4' Plexiglas floor that all walked on with no problem. A little scary at first but deemed safe. Had it for 3 years and still there no one has fell through yet.
The cost was less than $200. for the Plexiglas.

Just came in to add two cents.

Hey Papercut, $200 for 3 x 4 x 1inch...you got a deal. smile

I suspect that's probably the "thinnest" I'd suggest; though I'd look into Lexan.
