He didn't want to imprison people with AIDS; he wanted to quaranting them, which is effectively the same. He was ignorant about the nature of AIDS, that you need direct bodily fluid contact to transmit the disease. He erred in assuming a quarantine was necessary to prevent that.

Didn't know he wanted to imprison them, but I sorta understand where he was coming from. He says that Aids is a plague and yet the people with it are allowed to be in contact with the general population, not quarintined like when there were outbreaks of deadly diseases like bubonic plague. In some cases it's and STD and these people shouln't be having sex with others that don't have it, and it then speads.
I don't know if imprisonment is the right action to take, but I agree with him that we need to do something.

I can't believe people are actually agreeing with quarantining people with AIDS?!?! That is so ridiculous. That is like creating another colony for people that "aren't like us". That is a slippery slope that we don't want to go down. He was completely ignorant about AIDS back then and apparently really isn't backing down from his previous statements. We don't need a quarantine. We need better education and better resources and money for poor neighborhoods and countries where AIDS is rampant.

It DOES, though, sound exactly lke what a "religious" person would do!
aside:
There is a BIG difference between acting in a Christian manner, and in being "religious" for your voting public and others. (Let's never forget that Jesus walked among the lepers...)

He thought gay people had cooties.
He advocated the quarantine long after the CDC had published reports that AIDS wasn't airborne.

Cause he's ignorant and a red neck.
How can someone like that be the President of the United States?
We don't want someone who knee-jerks every time faced with a problem.
That's most un-American.

Well seeing as AIDS has surpassed heart disease as a cause of death... and it's a behavioral disease.... and you have a right to know if someone is infected... idk
