check the news paper. if you do get a free kitten then it probably isnt dewormed, taken the the vet, or had any of its shots. best way to go is spend a lil money (usually around $50+) to get a kitten from a shelter (has all shots, has been spayed/neutered, been fiv/feline lukemia tested, heartworm tested, and on monthly flea preventative). it is must cheaper in the end to get a kitten from a shelter, otherwise you are going to have to do all those things i listed yourself and pay A LOT more when taking it to the vet yourself.

Call the ASPCA or SPCA, whichever one is in San Diego and ask if they have a kitten available for adoption.
Also call the local Animal Care and Control. They may have a kitten available for adoption. Call Directory Assistance for the telphone numbers of the ASPCA/SCPA and Animal Care and Control.

LOTS of free animals.
either people cant take care of them anymore or they need to move quickly.
