Can anyone help with stuttering and gving speeches?

Ok, in a couple of days I might be giving a speech in front of the hole class, but I stutter. If I start to stutter, then I cant stop, then everyone will laugh and it will just make it harder, can anyone help me?, like how would I deal with this? how would I talk in front of the class without stuttering?

I think if you break the ice and talk about it first then it will put your fears and their ignorance to rest... I stutter, too, and after taking 3 years of speech and drama classes i finally learned how to speak to large groups and deal with it much more efficiently. Try to phrase words differently. For example, if you just CAN'T say "prepare" say "fix"... That helps me a great deal when giving speeches or even just talking to people... Good luck!

One uncle who stuttered told me that he had to be an actor whenever he had to speak in front of a group. He would not look at anyone in the audience, but would look over their heads at the back of the room. He would concentrate on what he was saying rather than how he was saying it. He would get it in his mind that he was talking to his dog, as he never stuttered when he talked to his dog. He said that the more he tried not to stutter, the more he would, so he learned to relax and just let the stuttering happen if it did and keep on going. Easing into the hard words seemed to help, he said. Go to www.stutteringhelp.org and watch some of their online videos as they show some specialists working with stutterers. They have a marvelous book, too - "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" that some of my family members used to overcome their stuttering after working through it.
