Owning up to his responsibilities. This means not only taking action to do what is right, but taking the time to look at things to discern what the right action is. This also means being able to recognize when he is wrong and being honest about it and be willing to do what is necessary to make things right.
A real man knows it takes more strength to make peace than it does to fight.
A real man will not turn his back on people in need if there is any help he can render.
A real man learns from his mistakes and from the mistakes of others.
A real man is not afraid to be wrong and is able to set aside his pride to learn what is right.
A real man can love, cry, and show affection to his family.
A real man does not raise a hand against another unless there is no other option, but will then do so with conviction.
A real man can let others be who have done no harm.
A real man can accept help as readily as he gives it.
A real man feels no need to put others down to make more of himself.
Just a few bits of what I think a real man should be.

Good question, and a person could probably write a book answering it. I'll say, a man becomes a man each time he transcends the boy and the animal within. I see it as a constant struggle, and a continually ongoing process, for any man can become an animal or a child if he is not mindful. I guess it mostly involves choosing intelligence, and reason over emotion and instinct. However, we have to realize our limitations, and deal with emotion, because to attempt to abandon that part of ourselves is blind and, in a way, it is like a sort of foolish death.

The ability of the individual to resonate with divine Love, wisdom, and Power.
For the real woman, a 40% initiative, 60% completing;
for the real man, a 60% initiative, 40% completing.
This is energy dynamics of the soulfield, and various complexes or shortstoppings may for a time and times block or thwart the divinely Natural expression of God's masculine and feminine.
Reading authors who model such balance helps, as reading tends to develop certain similarities of cognition.
E.g., "Autobiography of a Yogi," Yogananda, http://www.yogananda-srf.org is particularly strong in the divine Love aspect; "The Path of Virtue," Jonathan Murro, in the wisdom aspect; and "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, in the Power aspect, although all three are balanced and thoroughly "real."
cordially,
j.

Ive always said a real man knows his limits and never goes beyond them or never falls short of his potential and a fool never tries to exceed in anything but always tries to go beyond what he is incapable of and causing damage along the way. I would think a real man takes care of business. Teaches his kids about the Glory of God,supports his family, always has a job, loves his neighbor, never holds a grudge, always gives and never takes, and serves God with all his heart and all his mind. But this is a christian perspective so im trying not to offend anyone.

everyone has some good points but i think above all, the best role model for what a real man should look like is found entirely in the character and life of Jesus Christ. weather you believe in him or not, that still does not change the image of integrity, passion, strength, nobility, humility, yet power all bound up in a human form.
I'm curious as to what better role model you could you think of than Jesus?

Man(i mean the male gender) is a real man if he stands up to his words confidently. Honestly speaks his words coming from his mouth, and confidently tackles his responsibilities in all facets of life.. He should know how to lay low and build up his beloved, instead of proving who holds the last cards(power struggle).. He shouldn't have to hurt the beloved just to attract attention from her..

The criteria depend on the area of the world and era in which you live. The "real man" stigma is usually used to reinforce certain honored aspects of whatever society you happen to have undertaken.

Again...I don't know.
I cannot just judge men and say baseless things of how they should be in being real men. I have to experience being a man first before I could answer this question. Maybe in my next lifetime, I'll give it a try (...or had I already?).
...Or do you want me to measure man-liness against my being a woman? Wait a bit, I think. I am still realizing how it is to be a real woman myself.
