Yes, I know his views have changed, I know he's "flip-flopped", and I know it's recent. So, what? Ronald Reagan changed his positions on a lot of issues, not just abortion and the Department of Education.

But none of the other Republican candidates can claim that their "current" views are in line with the GOP's, either. Rudy Giuliani is a a social liberal; Mike Huckabee has spending and other domestic policy issues; John McCain has a history of moderatism, most notably his supports of immigration and campaign finance reforms; and Ron Paul isn't conservative so much as he is completely libertarian.

Yes, Romney has changed his stances; but isn't that exactly what Republicans have been hoping for all this time: that people all over will "change their minds" like Romney has? The GOP should be thrilled. After all, no zealot like a convert.

Googie, I'm not sure what you mean by "at this point". We're less than a month from the first And second nominating contests for the GOP. If you want to defeat Hillary Clinton, then you'd best get interested in a hurry.

Dino, one of the advantages of having $250 million of your own money is that you're no slave to special interests. Mitt Romney has never used public office to support the rights of corporations anymore than he has used it to support his church.

In his religion speech, he promised to serve no cause except "the common cause" of the United States of America. You can be sure corporate America is covered by that pledge as well. Their interests are served only as long as it's in the best interests of the country itself.

Read the whole thing at least

I think that what our country needs now more than ever is cooperation among democrats and republicans. Why isn't there any cooperation and thing getting done? Because of guys like romney who refuse to budge and theb cause others to act the same way. Now republicans are no the only ones doing this but they are the best at it.

And when you say it's good that he's a flip flopper and that might be a good thing, I say how do you know he wouldn't flip back to pro choice.

I don't see how you call ron paul a libertarian i think he is one most historicly republican consevatives. True Republicans are not interventionist, not for big spending. He is a constitutionist which i don't think people give him enough credit for. The patriot act is completly illegal and so is torture those are some of the things our founding fathers did not want to happen thats why they made the top ten in the bill of rights. Remember that document.

I hate Mit Ronmeny with all my heart. He is what is wrong with america, Sorry to say this but he is the totally typical partisan hack. During the Youtube debates when asked a legitimate question, he would as any douche bag politician would do change the question around and come up with the most ridiculous excuses for avoiding the question. When asked about his condonment of torture, he refused to answer because a general had advised him that letting the terrorists know how they would be tortured might be a threat to national security.

to wrap it up i think romney is the worst candidate for the job because he is a partisan hack.

Interesting question..

The republican party has traditionally been the anti-war/less government party, it's lost it's way, not Ron Paul. He is the only "true conservative running"

As for Mitt Romney, I fail to understand why he's not leading in the national polls. I think he's in line with today's "conservatives" more so then Giuliani, Huckabee and McCain.

on a side note, he has a bit too much lobbyists influence:

I cannot say whether Mitt Romney is a complete conservative or not. At this point I have little interest on what either side says. The closer we get to the primaries, the more the interest will peak. By then, Ms. Hillary might have shot herself in the foot, which would be a blessing for the whole U.S.A.

"Last week, presidential candidate Mitt Romney called himself a lifelong hunter. Turns out he's only hunted twice in his life. And, of course, both of those times were for Easter eggs. He said he hunts only small animals, like Jed Clampett did. Comparing himself to Jed Clampett? Is that a good idea? Anybody gonna want to vote for President Jed Clampett, especially after eight years of President Jethro?" --Jay Leno

No. Romney is a "corporatist" -- used to mean the promotion of the interests of private corporations in government over the interests of the public.

PS Who said he was a "slave" to corporate interests? He believes in promoting corporate interests -- how do you think he got rich? By running Hedge Funds and Venture Capitalist outfits, promoting mergers that enrich managers and directors and screw employees and shareholders.

A true conservative upholds the principles of individual liberty, free of government oppression.

Seeing as how he opposes abortion rights and equal rights for gays, he is pretty anti-conservative.
