Do you have the budget for it? It costs about 5-10 thousand pesos to have your complete family tree re-traced. You can ask local government agencies like the NSO if they have the service. If not, you can hire an accountant or an auditor to do this, yes, they're not just for numbers only. If that still doesn't work, you can go to an investigation agency (private detectives) and ask them to do it for you. It will take time but the work is almost 98% exact and precise.

Chief of the Ancient Tribes?
If it is the former, it's rather easy. Supposing it is Lapu-Lapu you'd like to be linked to, stand over there beside the statue in Luneta, and have your photograph taken. Look for resemblances. If you look like each other, then you could probably be a descendant. While it is a daunting task to prove this, it is equally next to impossible to disprove, especially if you or any known relation came from either of those places.
------------------------- Edit: I began with "If it is the former", because my first confirmation question was originally "Chief of the Tribes, or Chief of Police"? I edited the first line, but forgot to edit the next.

You'd have to go back through the birth records in the municipalities and/or cities your forebears came from. Good luck. I doubt very much if any of those are digitized and available on the Internet. Old-fashioned legwork will be the only way. Good luck.
