America in the Republican view is socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor.
This may be the dumbest thing i have ever heard

I meet all those criteria and generally vote for democratic candidates. Some of the reasons: when considering the needs of individual citizens vs the needs of businesses, democrats tend to favor the former and republicans the latter; democrats tend to see the US as an immense group of people, where republicans tend to see the US as this thing separate from and outside of the people that comprise it (and the thing trumps people, for them); the republicans have made a cult of capitalism to the point of extremism.
I don't think the democrats are right about everything, just that the republicans tend to be more wrong.

I will vote Democrat, because I have not and have never been on Welfare, I pay taxes taking the standard deduction because I am not in debt, I obey the law, and want America to be a better place for everyone. I am not a socialist, but realize as a small business owner that millions of middle and lower income wage earners with some spare bucks are going to buy more cars, more TVs, more of everything than a few rich people. Which will stimulate the economy and tickle UP plus create MORE jobs. That an unnecessary war is a drain on American life and the economy. There are other things to spend the money on, such as the infrastructure of our country, alternatives to fossil fuels, etc. etc.
And because I form my own opinions from observing what is going on in the country, the world and the economy. And do not need to have my opinions made for me based on half truths and down right lies.

The dems arent socialist first of all. Its not that extreme. Helping out a few poor people doesnt make one a socialist. It makes one a humanist. The most important question anybody should be asking is "what are they going to do with my money". Every other consideration is secondary. When you are able to clearly define the objectives of both parties, it is clear that the republican platform favors people with incomes of 100k or more. If you are not in this range but are among the middle class with an income of 20k or more but less than 100k, then it only makes sense to vote democratic. This is because dems believe in income distribution. In other words, by creating a smaller upper class and a larger middle class, the economy will thrive as it is the middle class that shoulders and drives the economy. The social programs you speak of are not pervasive, will help those families trying to make it off of less than 20k, and only represent a drop in the bucket compared to the defense budget. These programs can easily be payed for by reducing defense spending by a few percentage points so they should not dominate the discussion. Take a look at how the nations money is spent every year on the pie chart and you quickly understand that the money spent on social programs is not even worthy of more than 10 seconds debate. Defense, social security, distribution of taxes and wealth, these are the main issues that separate the dems from the repubs.

There are many differences between the parties that are more important to me than welfare and in fact after 6 years of the republicans controlling the government without making any changes in the welfare policies of Clinton, I am not sure their is much of a difference on welfare. The things that matter to me are
Iraq- relations with our allies
abortion
civil rights - patriot act - wire tapping
war on terror- torture
competence- New Orleans
government deficits- tax cuts- supply side economics
privatization of social security
On all of these issued I prefer the policies of the Democrats over what Bush has done with the support of most of the Republican in congress. By any reasonable definition of the term socialist the Democrats are not, and by European standards they are right of center or conservative.

You mean corporate welfare? Well gee, then a lot of American businessmen aren't going to be voting Democratic I guess, since they are on the dole and at the hog trough.
America in the Republican view is socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor.
I think I'll vote Democratic so that corporations will be forced to work for their profits.

Because taxes paid aren't the only (or even close to) issue that I care about.
Money does not make happiness, and, if a democrat can improve our schools and the health of our children, I will gladly lose a little bit of my income. I don't need a plasma TV as much as Susie may need a roof over her head.
Also, the issues of homosexual and womens reproductive rights are important to me. I don't want to see girls dying from botched abortions if made illegal again.
I am a Christian, but, I fear the extremist views of the religious right that Republicans seem to run with.
In my opinion, it isn't about money. It seems like republicans are republicans because of their pocketbook, but, democrats are democrats because of their soul, their need for a better day, and, their hope for tomorrow.

Democrats are not socialist. They are liberal. They believe in free markets and capitalism but recognize the reality that markets sometimes do fail.
The last 7 years has seen America go backwards from the wonderful position Clinton left our country in. Median wages are down, poverty is up, our standing in the world has plummetted.
So how could anyone not consider voting Democrat?

Is tax policy the only thing that matters to you?
What about the war, and all our other foreign policy issues?
What about the fact that our education system is suffering and that democrats are the only ones who have said that they will do anything about it?

How? Incredible annoyance at Bush and the neocons. I'm a Goldwater Conservative and look for men of integrity in either party. Then I look at their proposed policies.
