In five minutes 2 monkeys eat 4, 4 eat 8, 8 eat 16 ,10 eat 20 those same 10 monkeys could eat another 20 in five minutes or they might go and play after they have eaten two bananas so you would need another ten monkeys to finish the rest of the bananas. So I say 20 just to be sure all the bananas get eaten.

If we can assume that all the monkeys are eating at the same time and not one after another, then it must take one monkey five minutes to eat two bananas. So how many can that monkey eat in ten minutes?
Next, how many times does that number go into forty? The answer is the number of monkeys it would take to eat forty bananas in ten minutes.

That means 1 monkey can eat 2 in 5, or 4 in 10. 40 divided by 4 =10. Are these monkeys at your house? I thought the Monkeys disbanded and no longer like bananas?

It depends on the monkeys and what else was going on. Monkeys who eat four bananas in five minutes might not eat that many bananas in a different five minutes. What is more, adding monkeys would change things, because some monkeys might eat more bananas or less bananas than the original two. It also depends on how much they have eaten earlier. Are they starved? Did they just eat? Factor in other distractions and the fact that more monkeys are going to get into more mischief, this is an impossible question to answer without empirically observing the monkeys in the established context.

It takes each monkey five minutes to eat two bananas. With that logic, it will take 10 monkeys to eat all 40 bananas in 10 minutes.
This was on an IQ test I took recently.

First , 2 monkeys will eat 8 bananas in 10 minutes..
So, letting x be monkeys, then 2/8 = x/40, so,
8x=40*2=80.
SO, x=80/8= 10.
SO, its 10 monkeys.

One monkey will eat two bananas in five minutes or four bananas in ten minutes. It will then take ten monkeys to eat forty bananas in ten minutes.
Assumption: All monkeys are equally hungry and eat at the same rate of two bananas per five minutes for at least ten minutes of time.
