Would it look like what they call a "Shadow Person"...or like a real person or like an angel???
Also..do they wear modern clothes...or robes...or clothes from olden days? Are they spirits of people who died?

When I was doing automatic writing(which I regret)..one said he was my spirit guide. He said his name was "Thallheld". I have no idea what that means or if I made it up. I think he left years ago.(if he was ever there)Well, I still don't think it was me doing the writing.

hislady...The other one said he was a "guardian angel". He said his name was "Lucky Waters". He had a different personality. Thallheld was more the strict type. L.W. was more the fun type. (I'm not so creative as to have made up all this.) And I sure would have given them different names.

hislady...One time I made myself look like a "kook" (that's what my priest called me)..when one of them (LW or T.)told me to leave a note on the table at the back of the church for the priest. It said.."Fr.(his name)..The angels say you should talk more about God's Love." I was afraid to do this...but I did put it in a pew..however.."somebody" found it and put it on that little table where I was supposed to put it( If I could do things over again..I wouldn't do anything that I'm afraid to do Seems like those things always turned out bad.)

No, I'm afraid I've never tecnically seen my spirit guides, not with my eyes, because honestly, seeing them would frighten me and they know it. I'm working on that one. lol But my 3 main spirit guides, my "master guides" are angels--they've introduced themselves to me through meditation as well as through psychic/gifted friends, and I've come to know them over the last few years through thoughts, gestures, etc. One's my main guide, one's my protector, one's my "healer". I have no idea how they dress, TBH, these guys I go by feel.

I also have a native american man, a shaman, him I've only recently been introduced to, he was the first guide I actually heard and understood outside of my head (I hear my angels mostly inside my mind). Him I see in my mind as being older, 60's, maybe 70's, wrinkly, leathery tanned skin, white hair, light colored eyes. He's very "soft" feeling. He says I was his daughter in another life, and he calls me "Joneshia". Whenever I hear him around me, I hear native american chanting and the beat of drums. I see him with a feather or two in his hair, his hair in a long braid, and wearing tan colored soft leather pants and moccosins.

I also have an oriental man, a little guy I first saw through a "spirit drawing". A very gifted woman closed her eyes and trance channeled a guide who was an artist. She drew this man's face with her eyes closed. Him I have yet to know very well, he's quiet and in the background, but others have seen him. I see him in my mind's eye wearing an older style (olden days) chinese pantsuit, with the black flat shoes. He's very limber and agile and a very happy, jolly little man. I haven't come to know him, so I don't know too much about him yet.

I know I have more here than I'm aware of, but I'm still working on being comfortable with them in the house (it's easy to be comfortable with angels...they come with an overpowering sense of love), so they tend to stay in the background.

Sorry, I like talking about my guides...I'm sure it shows. lol But I believe we all have several, all who have different roles in our spiritual development, who will come forward at different times.

I like your question. Have a star. Yes, and my theory is that it's all in what you project and how you carry yourself. Angelina looks like a miserable cow so I get that. As a photographer, I see people who have the looks and the bodies that could fill magazines but sometimes there is just nothing "there" and I have to try and bring their personality out for a good photograph. Often, there just isn't one. Some people just spend too much time looking good and don't work on the "inside".

I have a woman that looks like she may be from old Greek or Roman times. She is a nice shade of pale green with golden hair. Sometimes she comes as an old black woman in African dress, she likes to do things like that every now and then. She says that she is where I get my sense of humor from, I suspect that she maybe a muse. I also have a hawk that shows up at important times in my lift and guides me in the here and now real world. For really important things he drops feathers to show what to do.

I have felt her presence since I was little. I had a twin at birth, but she died at three days. I believe she is my guide. The only time I actually saw her was when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, she appeared to me in a dream all dressed in white as a little girl. She wore white shorts, a white shirt, and hand long golden hair. She appeared happy and was playing. A week later I found out I was pregnant and just knew it was a girl.

When I was younger I had dreams about an old chinese guy who would give me advice about important decisions. I always though he was my spirit guide. He looked like a regular guy, but dressed in colorful traditional chinese garb like the wealthy old guys in old kung fu movies.
Honestly, I am pretty sure he was just a creation of my mind. But, ya never know....

edit: I also have a fairly extensive history of sleep disorders, so I don't really trust much, because I know my mind can do some crazy stuff if it wants to.

I'm not as tuned in as I should be, but I think my spirit guides presented themselves in a vivid dream: They were the eagle and stallion.

Although it was a beautiful dream I still have no answers - I don't meditate or try to connect because I am resigned to just letting them watch over me.

At certain times I can get snatches of voices speaking when it's quiet at night - I heard a woman's voice call my name one night - I still wonder if she was a guide ( I'm never asleep when I hear these auditory snippets ). I don't try to concentrate and hear the whole messages, that's just me.

it depends mostly on what you expect it to look like. if you expect an old bearded man in robes, then that's who you'll see. if you've never had this experience, though, then it means you're not ready. it doesn't matter what it looks like. most rational folks don't ever see a spirit guide in person, because it would freak them out too much. it's usually perceived as an "inner voice" of some kind by most people.

I guess it depends on what you mean by see. I have animal allies from my Shamanic Journeys. I always see them when I do a Shamanic Journey and seek guidance.

As far as guardian angels or spirit guides around me I choose to believe (via my faith in Shinto and Comanche traditions) that my ancestors are able to be called on for help (not the win the lottery kind) in times of crisis.
I have never seen them (after they passed away) though.

To present an opposite point of view from one of the other posters (and one of experience) the animals (or the traits you think they represent) are seldom what shows up as your animal allies during a Shamanic Journey. The what you expect you will get theory is soundly refuted by years of experience and tradition.
However, this does seem to be true (what you expect you get) in rituals using Peyote.
