well, there is situational depression that is caused by things happening in your life that cause stress, anxiety or sadness.Whatever causes it, you are discouraged or feeling hopeless. if you are feeling this way for more than 2 weeks, it becomes a chemical imbalance..
however..i do believe that lack of love and companionship causes depression...it does for me!

about 5 years ago, I started to fall into a really depressive episode. At first I thought it was only because I had a bad break from a relationship but the feelings wouldn't go away even after I got a new girlfriend. It was wrecking my life until a point where it was seriously affecting my work and personal life.
She was very worried but at the same time couldn't understand why I was still sad and thought that I still couldn't let go of my previous relationship. Being the wonderful person that she is, she put aside her feelings and suggested I go for psychiatric evaluation. Many months later and even more anti-depressants, I was not coming close to being better at all.
After doing some research online, I found out the real cause as you described it really makes a lot of sense and purchased this program. The results were simply astonishing. I read this book over three times and put all words in action. Using this method, I've kept my depression at bay ever since. Up to date I'm still living happily with my girlfriend.

There are many causes. Different people suffer for different reasons.
It CAN be a chemical imbalance, even though you don't want to hear it. Its also possible that they lack love and friendship, although some people deal perfectly fine that way. Its also possible that its genetic, as depression does tend to run in families. Of course, taking"downers" such as alcohol and/or certain drugs, can also cause people to suffer from depression. My friend was diagnosed with depression caused by lack of sunlight. His depression was always worst during winter, but when summer came he was fine. The lack of sunlight made him unhealthy and caused his mood swings.....
It can't be narrowed down to one single cause because ppl from all walks of life and all nationalities, races, religions, economical staus, etc suffer from it.

No, it is a spiritual thing. We were created a spirit being that possesses a mind and lives in a body that will one day die. So, we need to cleanse the spirit, educate the mind and feed the body in order to be well balanced in life. If we don't cleanse the spirit, then this is why our lives seem so misplaced and unproductive. Many people educate their minds and over feed their body and still wonder why they are depressed and have no real purpose and self worth in life. People need to understand this and once they get their priorities right that will be totally satisfied and know what life and living is really all about..

My mother tells me I feel the way I do because I don't have God in my life.... eh... although I do believe that this all has a lot to do with your genes, I agree that ones' susceptibility to depression may increase if you feel unloved or wanted... feeling like you are just taking up space. The thing is though, if you are already depressed, it may be nearly impossible to believe that you are cared for and wanted.

No. Depression is a state of mind, lack of love and companionship are mere symptoms.
P.S. -- if that's a photo of you, "hubba-hubba!"
