I agree to the ban INDOORS, but not to a ban outdoors.
One time, I got off a grayhound bus in Chicago, after riding for many hours. Started to light up on the platform. This big, burly security guard came bearing down on me. No smoking area. OUTSIDE??? He made me go around to the other side of the building. Wouldn't help me carry my carryon bag, my bag of munchies, my purse, my pillow, or my coat. He made me walk quickly, even tho I was nearly dropping stuff, and stumbling, trying to keep up with him.
And then, he left me to stand among the men who looked like hoboes and panhandlers, all by myself. Gave me no protection..... These guys all came up to me to bum a smoke. Scared me so bad, I couldn't say no. They took almost my whole pack. They could just as easliy have stolen my purse, or who knows what else?
Was that a fair thing to do to a middle class, middle aged woman? Why couldn't I have stayed on one end of the bus platform where there were others around that might have helped protect me?

I completely disagree. I despise smoking, and I think tobacco companies despicable for fostering their products upon unsuspecting masses, but no, I don't advocate taking freedom away. If a person wants to smoke, then they should be allowed to do so. I can understand prohibition in certain crowded places and any place that is small/enclosed; however, the government should have no right to ban what a business, such as a restaurant, does or does not allow its customers to do.
If a restaurant wants to allow their customers to smoke, then they should be allowed to do so! Does the government control business? No! That is called socialism! The government should be free to ban smoking in certain public areas where it is proven to be highly detrimental to the health of the people, but privacy for individuals and businesses must be maintained. I like my freedom.

Agree... And I'm a smoker!
It is a public health hazard. People should be allowed to smoke in the privacy of their own homes and cars, but should not be allowed to smoke in restaurants or other public places.
Ever since the ban went into effect here in Oklahoma it has been much more pleasurable to go out and eat at nice restaurants and not smell cigarette smoke.

Let the property owner decide if people can smoke on his or her property.
And yes, public property is still owned by someone.
If people don't like the smoking standards in a particular establishment(whether smoking is banned there or not), they can go somewhere else.

I think smoking cigarettes is stupid. The filters kill people. That said, if someone wants to smoke a cigarette that's their business and the business of the property owner. I think there is some amount of courtesy involved, but there is still no reason the government should be invading my personal space.
My parents have stopped going to some restaurants because they have a bad smoking setup. I don't see why other people can't do the same.

disagree mostly. i don't smoke, but i support people's right to even though i think it's gross. they should be more than able to do it in the privacy of their own home, car, and the like of course. additionally, they should be allowed to smoke in private places such as restaurants or whatever at the owner's disgression. that is, if the owner allows smoking, go for it. if you don't like the smoke, don't eat at the restaurant and take your money elsewhere. smoking should not be allowed in any public buildings (govt buildings, post office, museums, etc.) but should be free to do so outside (though they should have th courtesy to do it away from people whom it might bother)

Smoking in Public area was considered as equal to attempting murder (in Hong Kong). Smoking ban in public area including restaurant has been implemented.
Nevertheless, you can still smoke in your own living room.
It is good to use SPA candle to replace cigarettes or using Smoz.

Very much agree. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke when it's concentrated in a building. There are certain bars and restaurants that I can't even go to because they still allow smoking. In PA, it's not a state law. It's just a Philadelphia law.

Smoking is dangerous to the health according to the Surgeon General. Thus, it must be banned in enclosed public places.
