Strength, knowledge and balance inform one another.

One cannot act without strength, yet the direction to which strength is applied is meaningless without knowledge to guide it. For an action to be measured requires balance. The very act of balance itself is a combination of both strength and knowledge.

Yet even that leaves much unanswered. Greatness is a yardstick applied to an individual or their acts, but that yardstick is cultural and always a matter of perspective.

Are not those who strive against great adversity or simply endure Great?

These days I begin to believe that true greatness is measured by compassion and kindness, by nurturing life and sustaining it. And perhaps it is not connected to strength at all, but to a source of wisdom that delves most deeply into the substance of life itself.

That weaves a web through all the souls that surround us and within our own. That acts to provide good soil in which our humanity can grow. That informs and does not, as those who are strong so often do - seek to coerce or impose one will upon another.

Is that perhaps a different kind of strength in itself, and a kind of greatness which is available to us all, in our uniqueness.

Greatness also lies in wisdom and not being afraid of what others may say or think when you make a decision that will go against the grain of others; even though you know it to be the right one.
Edit Brad D: Now don't you worry about my hubby; he's well taken care of; meaning he's got food in his tummy, good clothes to wear and I go out of my way to do these things for him. When it's time to be in the kitchen I'm there with bells on my toes and that goes for the bedroom too.

From the mouth of Henry Ward Beecher- Reverend, theologian, abolitionist, genuis...Good pick for a quote to get some reaction on...One of my favorite quotes...faith without works is dead... assumes the same conclusion as Henry did in his quote, in so much as you you can identify a trait that a person has that may be a stand out trait, however if that trait is not put to work on a consistent basis what is the point...

All ambitions are lawful except those that climb upward on the miseries or credulities of mankind. You Like Henry Ward Beecher??

Brad D Why do you have to be a jerk just for the sake of it?? Learn to think before you speak lest you look like the fool you are!

Does greatness lie in being strong? Some might dispute this.

I agree...and would add that physical strength is not a measure of greatness, it is rather, inner strength that can move mountains. (Metaphorically speaking.)

I don't know what drivel your talking about. Let the men worry about strength and how it should be used.

What are you doing on the Internet? You should be in the kitchen making your mans dinner.
