Take it to the bank that the check is drawn on, if there is one in your area. It is ILLEGAL for them to charge you any amount to cash the check.

If the bank that the check is drawn on is not local, then you will probably have to take it to Walmart or some place like that where they will charge you a small amount to cash the check.

Someone mentioned that if it is a personal check to endorse it and have someone else cash it at their bank. This is not supposed to be done anymore. After 9/11, new rules and regulations were started that says for a bank to cash a check, the person who the check is made payable to MUST have an account with that bank. Some banks will still do it though.

You want to deposit into your bank account. Most paychecks are credited immediately in full, because they are paychecks. A check cashing place will charge you a fee based on the amount of the check. Also, some banks, I don't know about Chase bank, but Bank of America and M&T Bank are charging NON-customers a fee for cashing checks, even paychecks. It is their way of making money on non-customers. Then inquire about direct deposit through your employer. Your money will be directly deposited in your account at YOUR bank and you will receive a paycheck stub explaining all the necessary information: how much you made, time worked, taxes withheld, if any portion of your deductions are pre-tax, etc. Your paycheck stub will NOT be a live check, just an explanation of what you made and your deductions. Your money will be in your account on payday automatically.

If its a business check there are tons of places. Walmart will do it for $3, as long as you have a licence. If you don't have one in your area, check grocery stores, they do that often.

If it is a PERSONAL check, you have to go to a bank, or at the very least, endorse it and see if a friend can cash it at their bank (I've done that before).

Most easily at the bank that it was drawn from. (I'm assuming that you don't have a bank account of your own?)

You may have to pay a small fee (like $5) to cash it at the bank it was drawn on . . . since you don't have an account there.

At the bank that the check is drawn on.

Normally when you deposit a check into your account, a hold is put on the money for a couple days. You can request that they waive it - if it's a government check they very possibly will.
